Good evening Gentle-people, having spoken to a member of staff he is under the impression that the Dark Eldar are more aligned with their Craftworld kin. So the Campaign will be Eldar/Dark Eldar against the Imperium. So I will want four players per faction. Currently I am not planning on playing, however if it is necessary I can do so as long as I am not a task-force commander. The campaign will work as follows. During the first week the players will be assigned their scenarios from the battlemissions book (it is not a requirement to own the book). The Eldar/Dark Eldar task-force will be the attackers for the first week. Thereafter the task-force commanders will tell me what they are wanting to achieve and I will give them missions to play, they will then decide which of their lieutenants will tackle those missions. Each campaign turn will last fourteen days (Monday to Sunday). Games do not have to be played at the club, however it will help me let you know the narrative if they did. Both players will need to PM their task-force commander and they in turn will send the results to me. Campaign points will be awarded as follows. Each round the task-force commander will pick a battle stance, aggressive, balanced or defensive. aggressive balanced defensive win 4 points 3 points 2 points draw 0 points 1 point 2 points loss 0 points 0 points 0 points Each player will score the number of points stated above depending upon their results and the stance. The task-force with the highest number of points at the end will be the winner. I am undecided if we will use the veterans rules in the back of the hardback 40K rulebook, if we do there will be a twist as your opponent, rather than you, will pick the units to roll on the chart. When you sign up please let me know your preference and I will bow to popular opinion. I am aiming for the campaign to start at the beginning of December and last for four rounds, so hopefully everybody will play everybody in the opposing task-force (although that will depend upon the commander). I have already stated that Chef will be the task-force commander of the Eldar task-force (as he already has Dark Eldar). Dennis Ogden and Chris Young (White Wizard) have expressed interest in playing. Chris will be using Space Wolves, I do not know what Dennis will want to use, probably imperial, when you post here to sign up please tell me what task-force you wish to join. Imperial task0force will pick their commander when all of the players are decided. Background for the planet(s) involved will follow over the next few weeks. Regards and best wishes Luke |

They should have a DE Codex in stores to gawk at by now. I know that you can pre-order at least anyway. So maybe go and have a look and see what it says on the Eldar-Dark Eldar relationship? Anyway, I would take part were it not for the fact that I've given myself over to Warhammer this year, as I keep on saying. 40K, or finally getting an army painted for 40K is my project for next year... |

Thank you Dave, I ordered my book yesterday, but as I needed to visit a school I did not have the time to scour the book for information, so after asking the member of staff his opinion and seeing that harlequins are in the codex I plumbed an Eldar/Dark Eldar alliance. Thank you Chris, you are down on my list of Imperial players, I am aiming to start in early-mid December. regards and best wishes Luke |

Harlequins are in the Codex? Oooh.... I think I'll be buying myself a copy of this, even if I just end up repeatedly telling myself that I can't collect an army. It is very, very tempting though I must say, very tempting indeed... |

Yes, they do look awesome. I didn't get much chance to look at the book due to time issues, I am hoping to get a better look tonight on the way home. Warriors and wyches are troops, harlequins are elites and scourges have been moved to fast attack. I will let you know more when I do. Fantastic models, Colour section looked glorious. regards and best wishes Luke |

Hmm, if I'm still in the country I might be tempted to take part in if possible a minor fashion. Maybe with just 500pts of Grey Knights or something, basically something small and elite enough that it is conceivable that I could at least assemble if not actually paint an army in time... I've got quite a few Grey Knights sitting patiently in their MO bags and blisters you see...

hello everybody Dave, I am sure that we can accommodate something. The power of pain rule is awesome, each time a unit with the rule kills a non vehicle unit it gains a pain counter, if the unit has 1 pain counter it gains feel no pain, two is furious charge and three or more it also has fearless, and they are cumulative. All splinter weapons are poisoned 4+. They have a fighter and a bomber in the codex but has of yet I do not know how they work. I don't think shadowfields are one per army, they look grim. Luke |

Not a problem, places are filling fast Imperial Chris-white Wizard Chris-taloncab Dark Eldar/Eldar Chef (depending on dates) Dennis Stummer Ideally I want four of each so any more takers please let me know. I can make up the numbers on either side (would prefer Eldar, but such is life) but would obviously not be able to be a taskforce commander. Also for those interested please let me know if you want to use the veterans rules in the back of the hardback rulebook. Regards and best wishes Luke |

Just drama at work, turns out that spending a year working in Portugal (or abroad generally) would be career suicide in effect, which is a real shame. I pretty much figured this ages ago, but obviously the penny only dropped on Monday for Nilmani. So anyway, that's why we're unlikely to be going... As to what I'd use. Well, there's my Black Templars, which I'd always promised I'd finish to at least 1500pts before moving onto something else. I can probably knock them into a useable, if unpainted state fairly quickly. Just spray things black, convert myself a Marshal, maybe paint the Emperor's Champion and stick my Landspeeders together with blu-tac and there you go. Damian could probably give me some quick advice on what I'd need to bring it up to a useable and useful force. Or, there's the grey Knight option. As I said I've got a fair few sitting around in MO bags from when I worked at GW HQ. I could I guess field a pure Grey Knight army with only 20-30 models, but I don't really fancy making a mess of said models just to get them on the table quickly. IG, well I've got one squad fully assembled, but I'd need a LOT more than one squad. So perhaps lets just leave these alone for the time being, that's an army of indulgence for me really, my ultimate end-goal as far as 40K armies go, and only then when I've figured out how to deal with Praetorian vehicles, as red would look daft, and camo or even khaki would look odd I think... So, thinking whilst I'm writing, it's probably best if I stick with Black Templars. My principle reason for not saying them to begin with is that I thought that Damian and one or two others would be bringing theirs to the campaign, and I didn't want to be yet another Black Templar army, making it more of a BT rather than Eldar campaign... Actually, BT v Eldar would be pretty cool wouldn't it, what with the complete lack of tolerance for anything remotely non-human on the part of the BT's... |

Dave, use the BT if you like, I won't be around much in December so I won't be taking part. A good BT list is something like this; Emperor's Champion with the 'Accept any Challenge' vow. Preferred Enemy for the whole army (except neophytes) for 50 points is very nice Marshall with Lightning Claws. BT don't have Vet Sgts, so it helps to have another independant character (in addition to the Champ) who brings power weapons, plus his LD10 across the whole army really helps with Righteous Zeal checks. 3 Crusader Squads in Rhinos with Bolt pistols/Close Combat weapons, frag grenades (you have to pay for them), a Powerfist and a Melta gun (or 2 squads like that and one squad with a lascannon and flamer in a Razorback, also with a Lascannon). Make sure there's a space in these transports for your characters. You need 3 troops choices at 1500 points and if possible they should all have transports because BT are much better armed with BP/CCW than Bolters, so footslogging across the table rapid firing bolters isn't a great option. 2 or 3 Landspeeders with Heavy Flamers and Multi Meltas. That's the basics, then add other stuff to taste. Assault Termies in a LRC will destroy almost anything, but cost nearly 500 points. Tactical Termies can still take 2 heavy weapons, so double assault cannon goodness is on offer. Dreadnoughts are always good, I like the Assault cannon, Heavy Flamer combo. The Techmarine can be a monster if you give him a servo harness and a combat shield. Vindicators and Predators are pretty reliable too. That'll give you a nice all-round list that should be easy to understand and use. |
