It is another day of overcast. The air is filled with moisture and the insects are so thick, one could almost cut through them with a knife. The Streets of Fiducia are busy with the masses. The guards of the City seem to be on edge, just like everywhere else. They have been like this for a few months now... ever since the colossal Crystal appeared right outside the city walls. The rumor of the town is that they believe it is due to the birth of a new deity, but that really all it currently is, Rumors.

The Church bell gives a loud resounding ring, and a flood of people come out of the two large doors that rest at the bottom of the biggest building in the City. The Church has the influence here and from the looks of it, rightfully so. The statues that line the inner walls of the place are that of every known deity of a good or neutral alignment. It is a church of understanding and a place of compassion. But that isn't what is talked about in the crowd of people... No, all they are talking about it is how once again, the head of the church, Elysabetha, has made an exquisite sermon. She brought up again that the Crystal is a sign from the Divine Plane and that in the end, it will bring protection and peace. Some traveling merchants overhear this and start whispering to themselves. Something about how a researcher has come to check out the site and has reported that it has to do with some other chaos in the world. They leave before much else is heard.

Sorrowen arrives in the town, getting ready to perform her tasks, following a lead about the whereabouts of the fates. It is odd that such a entity would be considered to be here, but with her travels so far, it could be worse. Her latest sources have indicated that the fates are located in the lower parts of the church, but was instructed to only inquire about it to a priest with a dragon head brooch.

As for Celes, she has been in the City for a few days now. Her trial, as simple as it may be, doesn't feel like it has been completed. She knows that all she had to do was make it here, but an overwhelming sense of something missing is preventing her from just leaving. Could it be this dream that continues to haunt her sleep or is it something else... She looks up from her day dream and notices a young human woman, wearing a deep blue cloak heading in the direction the church. she has a odd feeling of familiarity, almost as if... The Dream! but what part is the question. Was she the Heroine, or was she the Temptress? Her mind is racing to recall, but the more she thinks about it, the less clear it becomes.

Chapter 1 Begins

Ilyana starts sweeping up the mess that masses just made, making sure to go between each pew. She then grabs a large bucket and a rag and starts wiping down the statues one by one. she gets to about her third by the time she realizes there is a visitor. she sets the rag down on the side of the bucket, and starts heading over to the entrance. Why hello dear, is there anything i can do for you?

Sorrowen never saw the point in churches. She believed that one could pray just fine anywhere. Fellowship?, bah...that's easier found on the battlefield, or amongst the eating tables. No, Sorrowen didn't understand why churches were so important. It's not like the gods or goddesses lived or dwelled in them. The deity's were in the ground, the sky, all around them....not trapped within 4 concrete walls.

That's how Sorrowen felt. Trapped. Trapped in this dreary place, hunting for information that may lead her too finding the fates. One would think that the goddesses that balanced the universe would be easier to track down. But it seems the old saying goes..."if fate doesn't want to be found...you should try running from it...rather than toward it."

She walked down the pews with purpose, head held high. Her weapons were prominent on her side and back. She refused to remove them when the temple guard asked her too. He made her "promise" on her clan that she wouldn't harm a soul inside the building.

"Why hello dear, is there anything i can do for you?" An undine priestess said while approaching Sorrowen.

"I am Sorrowen of the clan dunh' Argol." She said with vigor. "I have come to speak with any who may have information on The Fates."

Ilyana was following along reletively well up until the topic of the fates were brought up. it was at this point that a questioning look on her face appeared and she asked "I'm sorry ma'am but I'm afraid we don't have any information concerning these 'fates' of yours. But if there is anything else you are wanting to know, don't hesitate to ask." Her face bearing a large grin on her face.

A priest of the temple overhears the louder portion of the conversation and hesitently starts to approach, but by the time his fellow employee finishes her answer, he goes to a nearby table and extinguishes the candles that were lit for the sermon.

A young, fairly nondescript-looking girl stepped toward Sorrowwen and drew her attention by tapping the broom in her hands against the floor repeatedly.
*tap* tap* tap* tap* tap*
Girl: Fates? That's a rather-

*POOF*
In a showy burst of golden sparkles that could only be Illusion magic, Celes was revealed, with a faintly annoyed look on her face, the broom replaced by her spear, which she sheathed on her back.
Celes: As I was saying, You seek the fates? Unusual, and if I were to borrow the words of my father, foolish. Knowing one's fate is no more a blessing then it is a curse, and no more a curse then it is a blessing. I've yet to hear a story of someone who found happiness when they peeked at the end of their tale...

Sorrowen was about to question the lady further but realized she had spoken truthfully. *sigh* That's when an odd tiny girl caught her eye. She was sweeping as she drew closer.

"Fates? That's a rather-" The girl started to say. In a showy burst of golden sparkles that could only be Illusion magic, Celes was revealed, with a faintly annoyed look on her face, the broom replaced by her spear, which she sheathed on her back.

"As I was saying, You seek the fates? Unusual, and if I were to borrow the words of my father, foolish. Knowing one's fate is no more a blessing then it is a curse, and no more a curse then it is a blessing. I've yet to hear a story of someone who found happiness when they peeked at the end of their tale..." The girl continued.

"It is not the future I seek, but the past I must undo." Sorrowen says, slightly annoyed but mildly happy that someone else decided to bring a weapon into the 'sanctuary'. "Are you just taunting me, or do you actually know how to go about finding them?" She asked the newcomer.

Celes: A bit of both. The taunt, you've already heard. But as for finding them, well, I can offer my services as a sword for hire, if you're willing to have me. Your tale seems interesting, if perhaps even more foolhardy than I first thought, seeking to change the past. What's done is done....Unless you mean dealing with an issue caused way back then, in which case...It would be nice to have my aid, unless it is something that needs to stay hush-hush.

Ilyana: With all this talk, it sounds a lot like you two are planning to do something dangerous... she gives a long pause and it appears she is in deep contemplative thought. she then gives an outburst I know! I'll go with you as well! you both look so young, it would be too much a shame for this youth to be extinguished so early. just let me grab a few things. and not even waiting for a reply, she hurries off to one of the chambers in the back.

The man who was busy extinguishing candles see's she had left and quickly goes over to the two young girls. "I hear your interest lies with the fates. I can help, but if you want to act, we must go quickly."

-Liana stepped silently along the path she was following, observing the folk as they spoke of the wonderful sermon. Why did everyone want their faith to be so...happy go lucky? She wanted one that kept her thinking, sharpening her, not...dulling her. If everything was easy, no one would be strong. Strength was an admirable quality in a person's character...But those who had it in their bodies seemed to be more prone to misuse it. She sighed softly before she began climbing the back wall of the cathedral that had just let out. Her musings on faith were put on pause as she began her upward trek, carefully. If she got high enough, she could see the best view of the largest crystal. At least, the best view in her own humble opinion. With the overcastness of the morning, she also had a small half-cape with hood on, and as she began her climb, the hood fell back and let her rich red-gold hair fall free in the slight breeze.-

"I would have your arm fellow warrior, If your willing to give it." Sorrowen told Celes while extending her arm in the customary Ally/friend greeting.

"With all this talk, it sounds a lot like you two are planning to do something dangerous..." She gives a long pause and it appears she is in deep contemplative thought. she then gives an outburst. "I know! I'll go with you as well! you both look so young, it would be too much a shame for this youth to be extinguished so early. just let me grab a few things." And not even waiting for a reply, she hurries off to one of the chambers in the back.

"Wha...wait.." Sorrowen tried to say as the priestess ran off. "This is going to be dangerous, not exactly a journey for a nun." It was too late however.

The man who was busy extinguishing candles see's Ilyana had left and quickly goes over to the two young girls. "I hear your interest lies with the fates. I can help, but if you want to act, we must go quickly."

"Alright then, and what's in it for you?" Sorrowen asked the man, her gaze strong and unflinching.

The man starts heading towards the statues as he starts explaining there is nothing in it for me, other then knowing I am serving my master. but if you are refering to something more immediate, there is nothing but risk, which is why I urge you both to make as much haste as possible.

Meanwhile, Ilyana is in her bedchambers, going through her few belongings. she picks up an old quarterstaff, flimsy as it is, and grabs her belt full of flasks that are filled with water. she sits on her bed for a moment, contemplating what else it is she needs.

Celes returned the gesture (not sure if handshake or something else) and then moved to stay by Sorrowen's side.
Celes: If you'll pardon my inquisitiveness and paranoia, who exactly IS your master? Your offer seems less convienient and more contrived, from where I stand...

the man starts to realize that there girls were not going to be going anywhere without a few answers first. he has a look of urgency in his face and starts to speak quickly and softly "there isn't much to tell you both, the location of which we are heading is below these chambers, it is... not public knowledge, and only a few really know of it's existence... all that you two need to know is it is a place where you may commune with the fates, but even among those who visit it, that is rarely their reason. As for my master, few are aware of her and I feel that revealing her presence now is not wise. I want you to know I am not here to hurt you, I truly am here to help." he then tries to resume leading them to the back behind the statues.

As for Ilyana, still tucked away in her room, she was frantically deciding what would be a necessity and what wouldn't. "oh, I really don't need that... this book would be nice though... does this robe make me look fat? it really would be a shame to let all these books gather dust... OOoOooph.........." She had managed to grab several tomes and ended up clumsily tripping and scattering them across the floor.

Sorrowen didn't like all this subterfuge, but she supposed some grinning and slashing would fix it soon enough. *Sigh* "Alright, ...um...what's your name? ah' well, Lead on...and no funny business. I've half a mind to rid myself of this place and go scale a mountain."

She followed the odd man where he led, her reflexes on edge...ready for whatever came her way.

.........................................................

The door of Ilyana's bedchamber burst open. "Ana, ana! Please tell me your not leaving!? What will I do without you? Please, please, please, please, please, please don't go." A tiny wisp of a girl said as she flung herself at the now standing Ilyana. "honestly, you can't go. Your my teacher, my sister...I love y..y..ou" The child said abit hysterical and beginning to whimper.

She then begins looking at some of the things in the bag that Ilyana was taking. "A lamp? really?, and what do you need with a mirror and a chest of drawers?"

Celes sighed.
Celes: I don't like it. She has to hide? Why? Well, it would seem Sorrowen has made her choice, and I made mine. Here's too hoping her namesake stays away from us both.
Here's to hoping it's just a thought born of my magic, as opposed to a sighting of the truth...
Celes followed in Sorrowen's wake, keeping a keen eye on their guide...
