Lee, Kuan Yew just died aged 92. He essentially built Singapore. He was often maligned by human rights groups respecting his tough stances on drugs, misbehaving in society and so forth. Still no one can doubt the miracle of Singapore, and few know of how much of China's growth and success was based on how much impact Lee, KY had on Deng Xiapong. I just finished watching an interview of Lee, KY with Charlie Rose (and isn't Charlie Rose simply the best interviewer in the US today - no question mark as it was a rhetorical question). What an inspiring man Lee, KY was. Fascinating to hear him talk about his goals, and what he took over that was Singapore so early on. If you can watch the interview, well worth your while. It would be easy to think he was a bit of a jerk given his practice of caning. But what a humble and humorous man. Leaders like that are rare. If anyone can see this interview, well worth your while. |
