But ultimate pick has to be Keke Rosberg, winning the WDC with just 1 win in the year. Had it not been for: Villeneuve and Pironi in terrible accidents, Brabhams and Renaults braking down non stop, both Jones and Reutemann deciding to quit at the same time and the team having limited option for better drivers but Rosberg.

To finish first, first you have to finish. Or should that be Finnish? lol

Perhaps with the dreadful reliability, Rosberg was just kinder to his car? His teammates that year racked up 9 DNFs to his three....

I know he's not on the list, but I'd also throw James Hunt in there. Had Lauda not had his crash, who thinks Hunt would be a champion?

Those voting for Jacques Villeneuve and Damon Hill, is that because they consider the car being the main reason they won the WDC?

I won't vote but I will chuck my views in.

There are several names that it could be said only won because they had the best car at the time so it was the designer/team that won it. (Hill, Hamilton and Vettel) to name some.

There is one name that shouldn't be there (Schumi) as both teams he won with were very much second rate machinery when he joined them. The Benetton was inferior to the then mighty Williams and the Ferrari was just about the most unreliable pile of cr@p on the track at the time.

There are others that fall into one or the other categories so perhaps a vote as to which drivers earned the championships and which were gifted them would be more relevant.

Maybe by that score Alonso actually fits on both sides of the argument.......

When did he have 2nd rate cars? By the time he started winning at Ferrari they had the best car. He also had completely untouchable number 1 status, he got everything. He was ultimate number 1, much more so than Prost/Mansell etc.

In 1994 at Benetton, we all know they cheated their way through 94 so it's impossible to draw any comparison with the Williams of that year. In 1995 they had the same Renault engines as Williams so their car was at least on a par if not better given what they had learned in 1994.

I voted for JV because I think he's an incredible prat who never had the graces to admit his name opened a lot of doors in racing. Sure he was good in a great car, but I again point out his lack of success on less than stellar cars.
