Ricciardo penalties

Am I the only one who thinks that the FIA are getting a bit OTT with their sanctions these days?

Ten second stop/go after his botched stop, which was conveniently announced AFTER he'd pitted to replace the dodgy wing, and now the FIA have announced he'll also get a ten place grid drop at the next race. Is that not incredibly harsh? Clearly, loose wheels are dangerous, but he did not leave the pit lane, and he stopped reasonably quickly as well.

While I do not like the team in any way whatsoever, it does seem like the FIA have very much decided they are not in favour this year, just as they have seemed to when other major rules changes were brought in to shake things up after dominance from one team.....

That's not the way it should be though. Each case on its merits ...

It happened to McLaren and Lewis in particular. Perhaps if we see Seb getting penalties then we'll truly know that RBR are out of favour..

it was a unsafe release by the team, irrespective of where he stopped.
So the stop go penalty imho was right.

i don't think the officals acted improperly towards ricciardo

Agreed. That he managed to stop in pit lane is not enough to avoid penalty for what was an unsafe release.

Media crew staff were hurt badly last year with similar event where a wheel went high speed down the pitlane.

OK, so you can argue unsafe release. But TWO penalties for it? Surely you punish once?

Nope. the penalty for unsafe release is now the stop/ go penalty and a ten place grid penalty. Although at least the stop/ go penalty can no be done after a planned pit stop

Just seems excessively harsh to me. And I'd even say that if The Finger was on the receiving end!

I agree, it is harsh. Should be one or the other and maybe a fine

A bit heavy handed if you ask me. 10 place drop is waayyy worse than a 10 second stop and go. 5 spots OR a 10 second stop and go would suffice.

What is a 'fair price' to pay for risking the life of an innocent bystander in the pit lane just because you rush the wheel gunners? <think>

For me it has minimum to be a 5 places grid drop.
