Rate the Race; Significant thoughts?

Does anyone have anything to say about the race that they want to share?

This was a very disappointing weekend of F1. It was dull from the outset and not even IMO lifted by the rain which looked like preventing anything completely rather than mixing things up.

This track offers a lot of overtaking opportunities but there seemed to be little happening on track or even off it with most positions determined by driver error rather than on track overtaking or pitstop strategy.

Kevin and Kimi and Ricciardo losing out to one form or error or another all added to drivers gaining position.

Significant movers post lap one were Jenson and Alonso, Button didn't really make track gain on anyone, but his pace secured him his position and his defending at the end and Massa's refusal to give, gifted him not having to defend a flying Bottas, though his pace was generally significantly faster than his team mate who ended 25 secs further back. Alonso enjoyed good tussles with Hulkenberg who was mightily impressive and if his speed related to Perez is anything to go by would suggest he's on par with or faster than Button.

I'm trying to eek out the meagre postives in a generally overly dull race.

This track would have suited evenly matched cars but the long lap times and the strangely excessive tyre wear seemed to quickly wear down any advantage someone might have gained from changing to fresh rubber.

It's easy to miss the leaders when they dominate speed wise so let's not forget that while it may have been an effortless win, it was non the less clinically error free from both Merc drivers. I wonder if we'll continue to see Lewis dominate Rosberg like this all season.

Final thoughts.

Poor Ricciardo fell foul of the cloud of bad luck that seems to wander around the RBR garage. Maybe Vettel swapped back his car from last week. RBR still seem to be doing strange things with fuel flow gauges. You do have to wonder how RBR are soooooo far ahead of any other Renault powered car which is undisputedly SLOWER and lacking in power compared to the Mercedes and Ferrari if straight line speeds are to be considered.

Out of ten, I give this race a 5. Like the time I got up to watch it.

The race I will give 4. With specific mentioning of Koba and Hulkenberg scoring an 8 each, for contributing with proper racing moments despite inferior cars in an otherwise dull race, where most from front to back were in eco mode saving tyres, engines and fuel throughout.

Bored from start to finish.

If this is supposed to make the racing closer it is failing.

Most I would rate this GP would be a 2/10

If this continues I will be cancelling my Sky F1

glad you posted this as i thought it was boring too, but did not want to post another negative thread.I got up late and started watching the recording on SKY. After the first few laps i started to fast forward, then i tried to watch but found myself fast forwarded until i caught up the live race. Instead of watching, i paused the TV, made breakfast, spent some time with the wife and then got back and fast forwarded the rest of the race. Switched off before the anthems played. 3 out of 10. Is it me am i not giving it a chance? I am just not enjoying any of it, i just cannot get worked up about it.

I was fighting sleep all the way through. 4 is probably what I would give it. Although I don't recall many decent Malaysian races. The movement through the field was minimal which didn't help. A more mixed up grid may have helped as would some rain overall. That's not going to happen in Bahrain, is it?!

Pretty dull. Most overtaking was dull DRS fake overtakes as usual. The only way it could have been worse was if Red Bull had won.

F1 viewing figures dropped by 50 million in 2013 ==Formula One's viewing figures dropped by roughly 10% last year after a predictable end to the 2013 season.

Sebastian Vettel won nine races in a row at the end of the year, securing his fourth consecutive title with three races remaining. TV figures released in Formula One's Global Media Report showed overall viewers had dropped by over 50 million last year to a total of 450 million.

"The less-than-competitive nature of the final few rounds, culminating in the championship being decided ahead of the races in the USA and Brazil, events which often bring substantial audiences, had a predictable impact on reach," Bernie Ecclestone said. "The overall effect was exaggerated further still when you consider the calendar was one race shorter in 2013."

Despite describing the new V6 turbo era as a "farce" after the first week of testing in Jerez, Ecclestone said he expected the new regulations to bolster figures this year.

"One thing I am sure of is that this coming season will not only offer a heightened level of unpredictability, but renewed excitement and fierce competition," he added.

Bernie on SKY yesterday, for the first time was talking with his heart and saying it was below par, then realising what he had said would think with his business brain and trying to bolster the"show" He cannot defend this new era as he would in the past. I will be curious to know the viewing figures so far this season!

Nothing has really changed apart from Mercedes have the best car now.

Red Bull are close but the Mercedes was not pushed at all.

I was really hoping F1 was going to improve this season but it is worse than 2013 which says a lot.

I think it's the modern F1 disease that when one team gains some kind of advantage it dominates so much. You gotta wonder what Paddy was up to at Mclaren that he couldn't manage it there, but then Mercedes did rape the pitlane for all the talent it could.
