Unsurprisingly, Red Bull have lodged an appeal, so they're now going the FIA's court to try and defend what appears at face value to be pretty much indefensible.

I'm not so sure this time round. I think either RBR have gotten away with so many things in the past because either they had the FIA (or Bernie) in their pocket or their rule ' bending was untouchable. I think the FIA have been 'modifying' the rules to try to eek out exploitable 'grey' areas and this time RBR have been stumped.

Cue John's indignant 'whatever' like reply.

If RBR bent front wings and the FIA couldn't catch them out, then fair play to them.

If the FIA make a direct request to RBR to comply with the letter of the law and RBR refuse, then it doesn't matter if RBR thinks the technology is faulty or not. They went directly against an FIA directive.

On top of which, if RBR continue to make a fool out of the FIA by playing games like this, they are doing nothing but bring the sport into disrepute or at the very least, making the whole activity pointless.

Unlike the bendy wings, unlike the slot gaps that were supposed to be holes, unlike the flexing front end that required a turnbuckle on the front of the underfloor, there's no room for interpretation here. It's black and white. The FIA sensor is gospel, and the rules state so. The FIA told RB to turn the fuel flow down because their sensor said it was too high. The team's own sensor is for their own reference and the flow rate it measures is for reference only. Other teams had the same instructions and complied. There's no room to argue that a slot is a hole, or that the wing only deflects in a certain direction, an instruction was issued and it was ignored. Allegedly the extra flow was worth 8bhp. Given that drag squares with speed, I would assume there'd be almost no effect on Ricciardo's lap time, so I think the team should have complied and argued the toss over the alleged discrepancy in metering after the race. As it is, one race into the season, we're already in court over something.....

Probably the best RBR can hope for is for Dan's points to be reinstated, but the team most likely won't get any constructors points.

FIA just confirmed the hearing will take place in Paris Monday April 14, with proceedings kicking off at 9.30am.

It means that the final Australian Grand Prix order will not be confirmed until after the third round in Bahrain... <thumbsdown>

I hope they get a bigger ban for cheating. More fuel = more power. What is there to argue about?

RBR had to know they were breaking the rules. Maybe a race ban for the extra testing session? <devil>

I think that Horner is becoming a little arrogant. As Norbs said, they've managed to wriggle through loopholes before and he's obviously expecting they can do it again. TCG hit it on the head when he said they've gone against a directive.

I can't see them winning an appeal and I don't want to see them win an appeal. If they do, then F1 will become totally farcical.

The RBR owner has pretty much said that if they don't get their way, then they may well withdraw from the sport.

The source is a bit dodgy, but that site does love this kind of gossip as we know.

I didn't read his threat as a direct result of the DQ, but a more general dissatisfaction with the way the sport is going. I agree with his sentiments about the GP2 series as well as F1 being the ultimate pinnacle.

If the FIA want a tecchy green e-series, they should invent one and mot neutralise F1!

I think when one team dominates for four years and expects to continue to do so (maybe because they have someone in their pocket) then the sport needs shaking up. Maybe its a dinosaur on the verge of extinction.
