Vettel's saying it was a shame the yellow flag was out, but he simply wasn't good enough and they'll wait to see what happens tomorrow. He's happy for Ricciardo because it shows what the car can do.

Seb misses Q3  <yikes>

Magnussen improved his time, so got in as P5.
While Vettel just behind was not able to improve his time. So Vettel 2.4 secs behind his teammate.

Edit: And subsequently Button eliminated in P11.

Nooooooooo <mad>

Sorry Lex, you know I may have a soft spot for Magnussen. :)

Strategic error by Button?

Think actually both Button and Raikkonen were caught out by the fast improving times due to the track drying up end of Q2.

Just as the track now dried up last 3 minutes of Quali, and became 1.0-1.5 secs faster for the last out.

I'm hearing the commentators talking about the Mercedes tyre wear not being great, I hope that makes the race interesting

Am thinking the same as P1, but Jenson should have seen the writing on the wall! After all, they got Kevin out for a last lap!

That was an interesting qualifying.

Shame teams are allowed to improve the systems as it is so much better not knowing or predicting the weekend ahead <thumbsup>

Saying that Lotus will be needing to improve all systems <blush>

Vettel in the post-quali interview:
Quote:

This morning's practice was still OK but definitely a step down, and then this afternoon in qualifying when it started to rain I was struggling a lot with driveability and it made my life pretty difficult.

I made it round, but I struggled a lot when going on the power, so driveability was down. We programmed it to be like yesterday, if not a little bit better. There was a different set-up and a software update, but with modern Formula 1 there's a lot of software programming and it's not easy for drivers to understand what's going on.

We still haven't done a race distance in one go.  We have improved reliability compared to testing because we're able to put parts on the car with zero mileage. But there's still a long way to go.

We know that on reliability there are still things to do. We're both trying to see the chequered flag and we know the car's quick, so we want to finish as high up as possible, but priority number one is to finish the race.

So clearly he was suffering from a software glitch, which they might be able to fix for the race tomorrow. With Ricciardo we have seen that the car can go fast. Though we have yet to see a Renault go full race distance without cooling problems, but a wet race may certainly help them.

Rough pecking order:
Mercedes
Red Bull
Ferrari/McLaren
ToroRosso/Williams
Where the Red Bulls still have to prove they can go the distance at speed.

Today was my first opportunity to see and hear the new cars properly for the first.

Not sure if like.

But I do like the mixed up grid!

Starting to get seriously annoyed at Button always wasting his team mate through the weekend only to lose out come qualifying.

WTF is going on!!!!
