I'm slightly worried by the wording of one report that said the family had consented to a further operation after much thought, or words to that effect. Almost sounds like they knew that it might have implications after recovery, but that recovery might not have been possible without it. Hate the thought of him ending up with some sort of debilitating condition as a result...

A scan on Schumacher, who had surgery to remove a haematoma (a pocket of blood) from the outside of his brain on Sunday, showed that another haematoma inside his brain had “unexpectedly” reduced in size. It meant surgeons were able to carry out a two-hour operation on Monday night to drain the second blood clot and further reduce the pressure on the brain after gaining the consent of his family. Prof Payen said the 44-year-old German’s condition had “slightly improved” and was “relatively stable”. He added: “The more hours he spends in a stable situation, the better it is.” Prof Emmanuel Gay, another of the specialists treating the seven-times Formula 1 champion, said: "The dangers are still there. We cannot say that we have won because there are still some highs and some lows, but it's better than yesterday. "He is still in a very critical condition, this has not changed. And we still cannot tell how he will be, which state he will be in when he does wake up. "We cannot speculate on the future because once again it would be too early to do so."

It is a concern, but any recovery is better than no recovery at all.
Latest is that Schumacher's condition is unchanged from yesterday, which presumably means he is still fighting for his life. I hope the news improves soon.

Things are starting to get very ominous now. Since the hospital declared they'd not be giving daily updates, and only any info if there was any significant change, it has been silent. There's growing speculation in the press that still being in an induced coma after so long indicates that the injuries may never heal and that Michael could potentially remain in a coma indefinitely. Apparently, a day of two ago they removed a small section of his skull to make further exploration of the injured parts of his brain to determine if there was any signs of significant or lasting damage, but there is no word on their findings. In the German press, experts have been quoted as suggesting the length of coma might have serious issues on long term health should the injuries finally subside enough that he can be woken. Meanwhile, the family is requesting that the media and fans stay away from the hospital. What little that appears in the press now is all negative.

I fear you could well be right.

Unfortunately it is not looking very good.
It is amazing how people recover and I would not put it past Schumacher to come through this.
I have read on other sites many people mentioning a family member having the same type of injury and in time making a full recovery.
As a big fan of Schumacher I really hope he pulls through.

I read something the other day that stated that it was bad he's been in a coma this long. Granted it's just speculation that he may not come out, but it's still awful news.

Daniel Albrecht was kept in a coma for 3 weeks and has now made a complete recovery. His injuries were severe, but he hadn't bled unlike Schumi.
There is now speculation that Schumi may never regain consciousness, sincerely hope that doesn't happen.

Just heard that Michael Schumacher is no longer critical
From where have you heard that?
His manager Sabine Kehm has repeatedly said that any information regarding Michael's health not coming directly from the doctors treating him or from his management must be treated as pure speculation.
Last official statement from them was Friday 17 January, where Sabine Kehm said Michael is still in critical but stable condition.

Mercedes Formula One driver Schumacher of Germany smiles at the back of the pits ahead of this weekend's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne
Schumacher dominated F1 before retiring in 2012
Formula One great Michael Schumacher remains in a "stable" condition following a skiing accident in the French Alps that left him in a medically-induced coma.
The seven-times world champion has been in a Grenoble hospital with severe injuries since the accident on December 29.
For the first time, his manager Sabine Kehm did not mention the word "critical" to describe his condition.
In an email, she said: "Michael's family is very happy and confident with the work of the team of doctors treating Michael, and they trust them completely. Michael's condition is still considered as stable."
It is the first statement since Schumacher's wife, Corinna, appealed on January 7 for the family to be left in peace. Ms Kehm repeated that "any information regarding Michael's health not coming from the doctors treating him or from his management must be treated as pure speculation".
Doctors have not commented on his condition since January 6, when they said they still regarded him to be critical.
Investigators probing the reasons for the accident in which Schumacher smashed his head against a rock have ruled out faulty skis, inadequate signage and excessive speed.
Schumacher appears to have skied on a partially-covered rock, lost his balance and fallen on another rock further down, according to the prosecutor in charge of the investigation.
The impact was so strong it split his helmet in two.
The accident, in the upmarket French resort of Meribel, shocked Schumacher's legions of fans and devastated his wife Corinna and two teenage children.
Schumacher dominated Formula One before retiring in 2012, winning more titles than any other driver and enjoying 91 Grand Prix victories between 1994 and 2004

I think it is just the typical British news story but hopefully the Doctors state a different prognosis
