I really don't get these modern day supercars. You see many just going up in flames on public roads without even having an accident. Surely cars costing these amounts should be fitted with F1 style deformable fuel tanks made from puncture-proof Kevlar. Maybe if this was fitted to the Porsche GT both Roger Rodas and Paul Walker would have had a chance. |

A lot of them are fitted with such stuff. However, while a steering fault is suspected of causing this accident, the situation was magnified by the fact that the car was also reported to be travelling very quickly. It doesn't really matter what sort of safety systems you have if you collide at high speed with something like a pole. |

The ironic part is that although he was know for his role in the fast and furious series which glamorises such cars and speeds he was a passenger in this tragedy.... it never fails to amaze me that to go racing you need a licence beyond the normal driving one... yet anyone with the means can buy a 200mph car and drive it beyond the speed limits on public roads. |

All the more annoying when as a motorcyclist, my licence was restricted to 33bhp for two years after passing my test supposedly for my own safety. Now, there appear to be at least two hurdles to jump through of progressively less restricted stuff unless you are old enough or rich enough to do it in one go, yet in theory tomorrow I could go out and buy a 200mph car and drive it on the same day I pass my driving test..... |
