Now I thought this was funny

There is a cross line when considering whether politically incorrect statements are OK or not. At some point you have to consider the merits of the criticism versus the means.

Now I agree the following is stretching it a bit. In truth, however, these comments would not be made unless the target, in this case Julia Gillard, was not so widely regarded as a wanker - which by the way is a first for a woman.

You see the adjective "wanker" is normally applied to men. It must have something to do with the sound of the event but I don't know, never having been that aggressive with myself.

In any case I thought the menu thing was pretty funny.

From the BBC - a relevant part of the article:

Quote:

Australian opposition leader Tony Abbott has condemned a menu distributed at a party fundraiser that made crude and derogatory comments about Prime Minister Julia Gillard's body.

The menu was presented at a dinner for former minister and Liberal National Party election candidate Mal Brough.

It offered up "Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail - Small Breasts, Huge Thighs and a Big Red Box".

Mr Abbott condemned the incident, describing the menu as "tacky".

"I condemn it, as Mal Brough has. We should all be bigger and better than that," he said. "We should be appealing to every Australian's best self as we go into this election."

Responding to this criticism, a Liberal National Party spokesman said:

Quote:

"All Australians would all like to be bigger and better. However as implied in the big red box statement, there is no bigger bloody **** in our country than Julia and we thought we used the politest possible language in getting across our message."

I'm sure that menu item joke was used in reference to Hillary Clinton some years back.

Could be. In retrospect I should not have started this thread.

I drafted it for a very anti Gillard Australian mate.

My apologies to the forum. Even though a couple of bits were a tad funny.
