I am traveling and am using an antiquated computer that cannot copy paste. So I can't make direct reference to the article in question.

There is an article in the BBC about a new and growing trend in high end coffee shops. Starting in Italy it is now gaining traction and Starbucks has said it will now participate in this program. Humanitarian reasons of course.

The idea is if you buy your coffee, you pay for another which can be claimed by someone who cannot, themselves, afford to buy a coffee. No proof required by the claimants that they are poor and can't afford the coffee.

To the best of my knowledge there are no guidelines that the likes of Starbucks even have to prove or verify that they are giving these coffees away to the needy.

Now doesn't this make you all feel warm and fuzzy about these caring and humanitarian focused coffee shops? I know it does me. Wow what great corporate citizens.

But wait a minute. They aren't giving anything away. They aren't contributing a nickel to the needy. In fact they are making a profit on the donations of the well meaning customers.

What a scam. Horrible. How stupid do they think we should be? I shall not be buying Starbucks coffee for quite some time. Let me tell you I can't buy at unethical shops like that.

Besides why should I? I am going to claim free coffees!!!

Saw this a while ago in DM. The problem with 'ITS MY RIGHT' UK, all the same scumbags will be demanding their free coffee whilst the people its meant for will probably be too proud to ask!
