You mean that if Maldonado had hit Senna, he'd have been penalised?

If the FIA overturn this result it will open up a jumbo, family size can of worms.

I'm sure there will have been incidents in other races that would warrant a protest which could affect the championship in different ways. And not just this championship. Why not go back and re-evaluate every single other incident and change those results if needs be?

Yes, maybe Vettel broke the rules. But if he did, why did the stewards not do anything at the time? Why did Ferrari not protest after the race? That's when stuff should have happened, not three days later.

Does Alonso really want to win the title in this way?

I should point out that so far, I can only find this story being reported on the BBC website.

Maybe they're making something out of nothing.

Well IMO it's too little too late. Vettel should have recieved punishment during the race. Not the first time he's done similar things, over taking off track etc, but this is history. Ferrari should have protested DURING THE RACE.

What I don't understand is this, F1 has the technology to know if someone posted a faster sector time under yellow flags, they must surely know if someone made up a place under yellows.

On the basis of Ferrari's history, such as taking Mclaren to an external court to appeal the spy issue 2008 was it? Then I can see them taking the FIA to court over lost revenue.

lol

Article suggests the FIA are obliged to investigate and that no protest is necessary!!!

I was just reading the same article in the BBC online news. Saw it on TV late last night so I guess there is a bit of a delay to get things in print. I suspect that is the reason the likes of autosport have not yet got onto this.

Given that this is now public, the FIA has to investigate. From what the article says, based on electronic records the FIA would have no choice but to penalize Vettel.

The one big out would be if marshals were waving green flags at that point. On lap three they were, but on lap 4 we just don't know yet. If they get some evidence that is moderately reliable that a marshal was waiving a green flag, then Vettel should keep his title.

If not, well then the season just keeps getting more intriguing.

This is a very small item on the surface to potentially have such huge impact. Nevertheless the title itself was decided by the skinniest of margins.

Furthermore the rules are specific and it is not the first time this year that Vettel has ignored similar rules.

I would feel a huge amount of empathy were the kid to have his title stripped this way. But the FIA is not allowed - particularly in the face of such interest by Ferrari - to bend the rules particularly given what is surely to be a lot of public exposure going forward.

Maybe Rob will have the perfect season after all.

If there is a rule infringement, could they not demote Vettel a number of places which would allow him to keep the title?

That way, Vettel is penalised but keeps his title, and F1 won't be known as "that sport where they take away somebody's title on a technicality".

Then there is the danger of it being known as "that sport where they let you keep your title even if you've cheated to win it."

Overtaking under yellow flags is illegal, and has been punished with a drive-through penalty since drive-through penalties were invented. By that precedent, if Vettel did overtake under yellows (and the evidence I've seen is inconclusive, at best), he should get a 20-second time penalty, which is the accepted post-race equivalent of a drive-through.

The fact that he was in the hunt for the title at the time is immaterial.

On the strength of what I've seen so far I can't say whether Vettel broke the rules or not. But if he did, he should be punished, and if that means losing his title, then he should have thought of that before breaking the rules.

Ferrari have written to Formula 1's governing body asking for a clarification of Sebastian Vettel's controversial pass in Brazil.

I personally feel the race should be re run this Sunday as I have nothing to watch. <thumbsup>

There are far too many mistakes happening at each race.

Look how Kobayashi was allowed to keep his qualifying position even tho he did not slow down when Kimi made the mistake and spun.

Hulk got a drive through for hitting Hamilton but Vettel escaped moving across Senna.

Then Vettel as we all know past under yellow flags.

Get the teams back and race again <roflmao>
