Seeing where the Ferrari was in testing at the beginning of the season and how Alonso drove out of his skin throughout the season. I was wondering if Lewis could do a similar thing at Mercedes, probably not the whole season long, but i reckon there will be occasions where he will like Alonso get the car further up the grid than it should otherwise be. Should be interesting to see how McLaren fair without him and how Rosberg copes with his new team mate. |

I tend to agree and James Allen already implied this on his blog. It's always been Mclaren's way to share the honours which fair to say may have diluted their attack in some way, but ultimately with the focus being on the more experienced driver while the second driver learns his trade may mean Jenson will get a car more to his liking and not one built around a driver who theoretically deosn't need a well developed car because he can drive a tractor in F1 and still win . . . supposedly. Plus I don't think Lewis was good at feeding back. You can imagine the conversations. So Lewis how is it handling Just fine Any understeer? Dunno Oversteer You what? How is the trye pressure errrr In a way you could say it doesn't matter if you can't answer these questions well if you can still provide the performance. But I think in subtle ways it has come back to him, with tyre wear etc. So maybe he will find a way past the Mercedes limitations. |

A bit like Lewis had (post Alonso) in 2008... Mercedes (like BMW & Honda before them) have a board of directors to please and too many years without success is not seen favorably when it comes time to allocating budgets. I think Mercedes can afford to use the arrival of Lewis and the 2014 rule changes to use 2013 as a development year.... but they must start delivering wins in 2014 to keep the board happy. |

Lewis may be walking the high wire, but he has a safety net in Milton Keynes. |
