Fernando Alonso still remains confident he will out-score World Champion rival Sebastian Vettel in Sunday's U.S. GP - despite lining up seven places behind the pole-sitting Red Bull.

Alonso's defiance has become a regular event on a Saturday night this season in the wake of his now-familiar qualifying struggles. But the Spaniard surely surpassed the highest hopes any of his many admirers could have held at the close of qualifying at the Circuit of The Americas when he told Sky Sports F1 that he still expected to finish ahead of Vettel's pole-starting Red Bull.

"I still believe that tomorrow we will score more points than Sebastian," Alonso assured Sky F1's Natalie Pinkham.

Rumour has it that Ferrari may change Massa's gearbox, which would put both him and Alonso on the clean side of the grid, as well as benefiting Alonso to the tune of one place.

Morning Y'all. I shall try to join the chatter this morning/afternoon, but it is just so beautiful a day here in Texas de Alto that I'll be training outside till it starts.

I am hoping that a helpful Texas Ranger puts a couple of rounds into Finger's car to stop him from speeding. They do believe in strict traffic law enforcement in Texas.

Confirmed that Massa has indeed had a gearbox change, dropping him to eleventh. http://adamcooperf1.com/2012/11/18/alonso-...earbox-penalty/

Alonso goes to seventh, putting him on the clean side of the grid.

I'd also like to add that I hope this inaugural US Grand Prix in Austin is a great success, for the memory of our friend John Flood, who would have attended but for his sad passing earlier this year.

As it's an evening race for us in the UK I shall be raising a glass in John's memory tonight.

Good welcome citizens!

Things to note from a championship point of view:

  • If Alonso finishes 4th or higher, the championship will be decided at Interlagos, regardless of where Vettel finishes
  • Should Vettel fail to score, Alonso will take the championship lead with a 4th place finish or higher.
  • However, should Alonso fail to score, Vettel will win the championship with a podium finish

New championship scenarios and probabilities will be generated upon completion of the race, should the title not be decided in Austin.

I've got a bottle of Jack Daniels waiting to toast Floody when the lights go green. Would that he could be at the track.

indeed, amazing that we are so few as to notice the loss of one of our members and yet still here we are.

If anyone is interested, I found what looks like an interesting race following app.

Sorry group but I won't be online during the race. My main large TV just started giving me problems so I'm moving to the backup set in my shop. Unfortunately I don't have WiFi out there. See you afterwards.
