Sebastian Vettel favourite to claim pole position after topping the timesheets in each of the three Practice sessions so far; Austin circuit warmly endorsed by the bulk of the field

Still no news, by the way, about any penalty being meted out against Sergio Perez after his tangle with Charles Pic during P3. The consenus from the Sky Sports F1 team is that Pic was as much to blame for the collision, if not more so. But it's proving a difficult time for Sergio - he's yet to score a point since being confirmed at McLaren for 2013!

explanation of the track conditions last night after P2 - "The best way I can describe it is like when you are driving in the snow in the slow lane and you are in the tracks of a lorry in front. And you daringly try to pass him in the middle lane, but it is too risky, too snowy and that is what it is going to be like for the drivers out there. It is pretty much going to be down to single file and it will be only the brave that risk going down the inside."

Apparently, Felipe Massa has described the Circuit of the Americas as the "most slippery track he has ever driven on".

Sebastian Vettel has had a few incidents of his own during the course of practice, but has yet to be headed on the timesheet so far.

According to Lewis Hamilton: It's proving a very tricky circuit, partly because of the design, and partly because the surface seems to be unusually slippery. Expect more than a few 'incidents' in qualifying as the drivers push the limits - and beyond

Whatever happens in the Drivers' Championship, it seems certain that Red Bull will be celebrating a third successive Constructors' Championship this weekend. They need just four points to secure yet another gong.

Greetings SS <wave>

I hope that Nando can get close to Seb on the grid, and perhaps pressure him tomorrow.

The good people of Austin appear to have taken Formula 1 to their hearts for the debut United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. It would be fair to say that the sport has failed to catch on in a country which is obsessed with Nascar. But early signs suggest this venue - the 10th to host an F1 race - looks like a keeper. The fans are turning out in force, the track looks good and while it may be chilly, the sun is still shining...

And there's something nice about the local race time matching mine.
