He turned down potential team management roles at Ferrari and Mercedes, who knew he was holding out for Caterham

It doesn't say it is going to be MS, but if any one could turn them around i think he could. |

I think it is safe to say that Schumacher will leave F1 on the 25 November and will only return as a VIP guest. |

IMO, MS deciding to cut his ties with Ferrari to pursue a fantasy with Mercedes was the enactment of the old man leaving his faithful wife for the tart at the office. He is not going to Caterham but if he did, this would be the same as the old man being ditched by the tart and going to live alone in a bedsit. MS in my opinion made the biggest mistake of his career coming out of retirement to race for Mercedes, his iconic status has gone, he has become ordinary in the eyes of new motor sport fans and even myself find it difficult to remember and feel just what a presence he had during his proper career and retirement. I imagine this time round when he is retired, he will be wondering why he did it, like the old man in the bedsit being aware he is no longer a part of his ex-wife and ex-tart who are now too busy courting their new partners. |

LOL... that comment says far more about the shallow loyalty of the Tifosi than anything else.

SS, that's a bit harsh. As I recall, the bug to race again in MS was planted by Ferrari, when they sought to use him to replace the injured Massa after Hungary. His neck injury prevented him, but also opened the door for Brawn to draw him into his team by offering him a race seat the following year. I don't see that as a betrayal of Ferrari at all. Its not as if Luca was offering him a drive and he refused, preferring to go to Merc instead. That would be disloyal. All the talk of a third car was just talk. At best, Schumacher might have raced for Sauber. Anyone would have preferred a Mercedes drive over a Sauber. In addition to that was the prospect of re-joining forces with his old boss, Ross Brawn, go to the championship winning team and repay a debt to Mercedes, for supporting him in the early days. As to the efficacy of his stint with Merc, results apart, its gone a long way in making Michael Schumacher, the invincible, more human and therefore, more likable, to a lot of people. Probably done him a great deal of good, by way of how he will be remembered in the future. I reckon, he'd be pretty pleased with that. Sure, he'd have loved to have won more races, compete for the championship, but nothing I've heard or read in his comments suggests regret or bitterness. I too, would loved to have seen him drive for & win for Ferrari again, but, 3 years later, it was a very different team. Sure, a lot of the same people were still around, but equally some of the old ones he had worked with, weren't there anymore. So, it wasn't to be. Its okay. Post retirement, he'll probably be equally welcome in both the Ferrari & Mercedes garages. |

In that case, why didn't he sign for Red Bull when Webber's contract was up for renewal?
