Vettel is a lucky boy. But in between his bits of luck, he drove really fast and overtook many cars. Some twice. To put his podium finish purely down to luck, is being a bit graceless. It was clever of RB to start him from the pits and circumvent the parc ferme rules to his advantage. They did whats allowed and gained. As a Ferrari supporter, I might not like it, but I couldn't say its cheating or undeserved or anything. Whats been an even bigger bit of luck is how often drivers have emerged unscathed even after having cars fly inches past their helmets. I reckon, Formula 1 has been given plenty of warning and at some time the luck is going to run out. I cannot imagine the brilliant brains in F1 cannot work out a suitable device that will protect the drivers' head against flying cars and tyres. They don't do it, or dilly-dally over it because it would be an aerodynamic disadvantage. Well so be it. The FIA needs to approve a standard design and make it mandatory. So everyone is equally disadvantaged. Then just get on with it. and do it before some bloke has his/ hands smashed up. |

I agree with John when he says Vettel makes his own luck. |

As a wise man once said, much rather be lucky than good. How many safety cars did Schumacher need to score points in the Ferrari when he started last on a couple of occasions? There's no doubting that it took a lot of skill to finish third. But there's also no doubting that without having the fastest car on the track, one that had been modified outside of parc ferme conditions with effectively no penalty as he was starting last anyway due to having cheated in qualifying, and without having the gap to the leaders nullified twice, then he'd have been hard pushed to finish much better than a minor points position. Having two DRS zones and a taller top gear after the modifications to the car, which was already faster than just about anything else on the grid is not really that much of a penalty. I think there should be a rule that you cannot take the car out of parc ferme if you are dropped to the back of the grid. Taking the car out of parc ferme is punished by a pit lane start, but if you've already been made to start last, then quite frankly that's no penalty. Perhaps the parc ferme rule ought to be changed to a 30 second time penalty added after the race? I think that this situation is quite close to Schumi winning a race in the pit lane when taking a penalty on the last lap, when his pit box is past the start/finish line. It's within the rule, but blatantly unfair. |

Agreed! If a driver/team is given a penalty then it must be seen as such and not as an opportunity for them to improve performance. Imagine a sin-binned rugby player being allowed to go to the dressing room, have a massage, in-depth analysis of the game and areas for the team to improve, then a fresh kit and an invigorating high caffeine drink to boost him up before his return to the game... I wonder how many other penalised teams will now revert to the pit lane? It's a bit of a mockery tbh... |

What a load of.............................![]() ![]() It was a good race, we had a new winner (amazingly the 8th of the season) we had Alonso reduce the points gap ensuring the title will go the full season (which is always good) and and Vettel made the very best of a bad saturday... something for everyone |

lol nice come back John, you must be pleased we haven't seen you on the forum this much in a long time. Two things to consider, I agree with Norbert about the ultimate lack of punishment considering how much he was actually able to nulify the punishment. But that is hardly Vettel's fault. |

I don’t know why John takes comments about Vettel so seriously! It’s one thing being a fan it’s another being a strange obsessive. Yesterday reminded me a little of Belgium 1995 with Schumacher and Hill. One of the few times that Hill cracked Schumacher on the track but safety cars and Hill getting too excited in the pits gifted the win to magic Michael. I don’t think it’s a case of being lucky rather than good because neither Schumacher or Vettel need any luck to win races but it always seems like things always fall into the place for certain people, it’s more like lucky AND good. Lex also makes some good points in his post. |

I'm not sure what your trying to achieve here apart from making yourself look a little silly. Serious question, do you have feelings for Seb? I've never come accross a response like yours when a driver is called lucky, it's bizarre. |

to be honest Mike, I spend a lot of time talking about jenson button, as john implied earlier. John is a little over zealous in his defence of his 'hero' but I am not surprised. As a Button fan I can't go near planetf1 without wanting to vomit. |
