But Stewart told BBC Sport: "If you've got a superior car, it's relatively easy to win the championship.

"To really show you're one of the greatest, you have to deliver when you haven't got the best machinery."

Shhhh Jackie, John might overhear and think you've been reading the threads on the F1 forums.

He's very good, like Hamilton. However I completely agree with the sentiments that both of them have been spoiled rotten by effectively being sponsored by a big brand/team from the word go, and arrived in F1 in a top organisation (admittedly Vettel in the junior Red Bull team, but maybe if there was a baby Mac team Hamilton would have done a year with them?). Perhaps Lewis going to Merc might help dispel any suggestion about the car being most of his success. I wonder what might happen with Vettel in 2014 if he does end up at the Scuderia, and they make a dog?

I don't if anyone has seen this film, I have a 5 year old son so I have seen it many times, but it kind of sums up the Hamilton Vettel battle with Megamind as the super villain against super hero Metroman and I quote Megamind when talking about their epic battles:

Not sure if I have seen the film, but I do recognize the work of the dentist.

As far as I can tell JYS has said nothing he has not already said in the past, his views on Vettel are well documented and he is entitled to them...

His view will not change my view which is fine afterall I cannot force him to be right.

Sometimes I think that things Sir Jackie Stewart says are a bit off. I am pretty sure that on occassion I am right in that regard.

Nevertheless, who am I to say. He has a touch, and just a touch, more credibility than me. I am confident he knows drivers better than all of us lot.

Having said that, I do know a lot about personal grooming. I can therefore say with confidence that, while he may be true about Vettel, I am convinced that his hair cut, for a man of his stature, is nonsense.

Smaller men must realize short hair makes them look taller.

Just rambling thoughts....

I don't really take JS that seriously though he has a somewhat more informed and undoubtedly less biased opinion than us mere forum scribblers.

I don't really care who is great or not. It's meaningless really and impossible to make a comparison.

The only thing I would add is that to ignore the lift Vettel has been given and the luck he has had to find himself in that car cannot be ignored.

I was never a 'fan' of schumacher way back then because he was always battling people I was a fan of, but to ignore his contribution and skill would be idiotic to say the least. He is a great. Vettel hasn't even come close to emulating anything (other than boring us with his dominance) that MS has done.

Like Lewis is trying, Vettel simply stepped into the right car at the right time. He is undoubtedly one of the fastest in F1 right now and it would be stupid to suggest he is fit for nothing more than the midfield or back row. I doubt putting Glock or Kova or Petrov or similar in the RBR would significantly raise their game. Nonetheless, lucky he is.

When Lewis first hit the scene I fully expected that 5 years on he would be on his 3 championship... I was following Vettel in the formula BMW days and was really happy to see him get a break into F1 but while I was confident he had the speed to be a champion I never in my wildest dreams expected him to achieve what he has in so short a time.

Lewis (I think) also expected himself to have achieved more than he has done, I do not think that is unreasonable but to put Vettels achievement purly down to good luck smacks of sour grapes... that or it is confirmation that he so insecure in his own talant that he must explain rivals beating him his bad luck.

He needs the publicity to fund his retirement package. I grew tired of his comments years ago.
