The biggest difference is that the Mercedes concept provides an increased performance boost only when the DRS is activated. It works by channelling air from inlets in the rear wing endplates to the car's front wing and thereby stalling both rear and front wing (and reducing drag). And in this connection it is worth noticing the recent FIA moderations to Technical Regulations Article 3.18, which state that the DRS "cannot be used to change the geometry of any duct, either directly or indirectly, other than the change to the distance between adjacent sections permitted by Article 3.10.2." Essentially that means that the the Mercedes double-DRS principle is banned next season... However, that regulation does not apply to the double-DRS concept that Lotus plan to use, as that is a completely passive system and not activated by the DRS. With their sinister air ducts it attempts to stall the rear wing (and only the rear wing) above a certain speed. |

If the FIA wish to disallow a system, why are they banning one and not the other? All this will do is get the teams spending money in replicating and then constantly trying to improve the Renault type of system. Or come up their own versions of it, which others will object to, and the whole cycle repeats |

Why not just say stalling of the front wings is not permitted? |

I would say on safety grounds the DRS should be linked to both ends of the car Mark |
