David Cameron was the first serving British Prime Minister to appear on Late Night with David Letterman. The audience was very impressed.

Personally I think Cameron is the best head of state in the world today and the UK is very lucky.

I assume that that is a sarcastic remark. Personally I think you are very lucky not to live anywhere near him!

Luckier than Somalia, not doing so well under the last few governments, including the current pillock we call prime minister.

on a slight serious note - (i know that a dangerous position to start from)

when "call me dave" came into power, he said "we are all in it together", i thought he meant something to do with the uk lottery.

Big society and reduce the deficit.

Few years on, big society has gone, dont think even big dave knew what it was about, and the deficit, we (as a country) are borrowing more thus instead of reducing the deficit, its grown.

and that thing about we are all in it together, giving the top earners a 5% tax break, damn decent of you dave.

A well known phrase, "Couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery" comes to mind.

rant over

Personally I don't trust Obama, but I am not going to blame him for the economy.

That blame falls on the following groups as a start:

1. Greedy bankers.

2. Corrupt societies leading to massive labour inefficiencies and ultimately unemployment (e.g. Greece, Spain).

3. Brutally selfish emerging nations (e.g. China)

4. The George Bush war on terror extending to Iraq.

5. Walmart type of people you find everywhere these days.

Obama chose to try to spend his way out of the problem with some government works. He is completely insincere about his taxation policy choosing to abuse the statements of the likes of the great Warren Buffet. His medical plan is going to be a catastrophe because it imposes no responsibility for entitlement and is not founded on solid business principles or understanding.

It would be wrong to blame David Cameron for the UK's woes. He has inherited a terrible situation with a minority government.

Whether or not you agree with his economic approach (I do agree with his approach mind you) I suspect the UK is better off today with him than without him.

The last time the UK was rescued from the brink was by Margaret Thatcher. No doubt she was immensely unpopular though you might ask yourselves "with whom was she unpopular?" during the tough times.

Similarly Ronald Reagan was not always popular (his interest rate policy at the time wiped me out) but he completely rejuvinated the US (economically, militarily, self-esteem and understanding its role in the world) and cleaned out much of the parasitic content in US business and society. His main failure was his inability to curb Congress' spending (Democrat controlled) and this was made worse by Bush Sr.

The point is when there are crises and tough decisions need to be made, the person making the tough decisions is rarely popular or understood. Any little thing can be picked upon and used in isolation.

My friends are mostly pretty bright people. A lot of Brits included in that. About half of us are international in bent.

With no exception we like David Cameron and consider him the best leader of developed nations today. Just saying it as we see it.

Sorry about the head of state thing. I meant person really in charge. Someone who keeps their clothes on no matter how hot it gets.

I should add stubborn labour and others who feel they are entitled to anything and everything. I didn't want to labour bash. There are reasons why the likes of Apple and Walmart and Target move so much of their suppliers and manufacturing to China and now India or Vietnam or the Philippines.

I will tell a story of a company called Something Sales. It was started by a lovely family in Australia - obviously I know the family. They made tool boxes and ladders. The employees - all 30 of them - decided to shut the plant down if they didn't get more pay and other benefits.

Problem was the company couldn't compete and survive with their terms.

Long story short they folded up in Australia and set up a small plant in China. They had no choice.

Today more than one million square feet of manufacturing space and bulging at the seams. They sell some 600 x 40 foot containers per month. Second biggest manufacturer of tool boxes in the world.

Purpose of this story:

First it is typical scenario. Not many companies want to shut down domestic operations and move overseas. That is fraught with problems, costs and risks. But yet they do it.

Second stubborn "we the little poeple abused by greedy corporate people and governments". That attitude becomes self perpetuating and a cancer in society. It sets up a conflict between the haves and have nots. It masks the real problems. The big guys may sometimes have a point.

It is really tough to turn a downward spiral around when there is no trust, no sense of self responsibility and no sense of the need for groups to cooperate versus being antagonistic.

In situations like that I should hope that the PM or President is smart and tough. Such as David Cameron. I find him clear and crisp.

And of course I am just waiting for someone to bring up the "Tax breaks for the rich" thing. I suppose I can do a pretty good job explaining that whole thing.
