Taken - well stolen - from the BBC website... Talking about the MS crash (from comments section) This has happened so many time that I suspect Schumaker is involved in some 'cash for crash' insurance scam. What is a category 'C' Formula 1 car worth? Personally, I've always got an eye in the rear view mirror in case he's behind me on my way to Aldi - you can't be too careful. Mark |

Personally I think it a bit harsh I feel it more of a racing incident How many other accidents have happened like this and no one had a penalty. One accident that I feel that happened in the past was the one in Monaco - when some one run into the back after coming out of the tunnel. Mark |

I think it was a bit harsh as well. It looked like he did try to break on time, but I guess from what I read his tyres were not up to temp after following the safety car. But I have Shumi colored glasses. |

I think the rather spectacular nature of the incident might have helped. Although, is the standard post race slap on the wrist for taking both cars out normally 10 places? If anything is harsh, it's the stewards referring back to Barcelona and an incident four months ago! |

Reading back, MS was given a 5 place penalty for the incident with Senna. Given that he was punished, and it was ages ago, I think using it to add to the punishment for yesterday's incident is a little over the top. |

I thought it was a mechanical problem? the car wobbled as it skidded, sky picked up on it. |

I don't have the replay in front of me but did see it a couple of times on race day. It was strange which makes me think there were mechanical issues even though that has not been mentioned (or denied I think). He just took responsibility. The thing is they were going roughly same speed and Shumi jammed on his brakes and skidded quite a distance to Vergne. The impact was pretty much more significant than you would have thought. Personally I thought the car was stuck in gear or throttle stuck. But again I have no clue and must take the news at face value. 10 places for what appears to be a racing incident (given what was happening in front of him created unpredictability) I think is pretty severe. Maybe a lesson is being delivered to someone to whom the penalty doesn't mean so much to set a precedent to others. Maybe the Lotus and Williams lobbies were hard at work. |

His return was either going to be a dissapointment or a huge failure. It's a shame to see him reduced to this. I blame Lewis Hamilton. |

You're right. Lewis started this trend of ramming stationary cars in the Canada pit lane. He got a 10 grid penalty for it. Exactly the same as what Schumacher has been given now. So what if it wasn't in the pit lane, or the car ahead wasn't stationary!

I blame Mald-OhNo!-do and Grosjean. If they didn't have a crash almost every race and make a mockery of the 'reprimand' system as first abused by Lewis, then the stewards wouldn't have had to punish them for that with something a little more concrete, and therefore with MS only have had a couple of daft crashes well spaced out, he might otherwise have simply been to not to do it again until the next race.... |
