It has been mentioned that we should invite old members who have either not posted for a long time or have be banned.

Just wanted to see what the people of Pitlane feel about inviting these members back.

Ok we have Matt and Kerri who were banned but is it maybe time we forgive and forget and give them a chance.

Matt was very head strung but it got reactions <roflmao>

Please make a choice and any points for or against

<thumbsup>

Not sure why they were banned so cannot comment... Gosh this fence is comfortable!

Jim, let's not forget that we did the whole forgive and forget thing before, and it just went horribly wrong. In any case, I doubt they'd be bothered about coming back after so long!

I'm not sure just how many are actually banned as opposed to those that just stopped posting... I would have thought that to be banned would a very last resort over very serious issues and so would also question the ability for change from any banned individual.

IMO... It would be better to win back lapsed members rather than un-banning potentially volatile ones.

Agreed.

For instance, I doubt anyone would want to have CBS back...

Yes I tend to agree.

Better getting new people to join Pitlane

Darn; I just turned 74 Sunday and I thought the title was referring to me.

OK, I think that removing a ban should undertaken very carefully. Many pitfalls there. I would say we need to hustle up new members. I try but I can't find anyone who even has heard of F1 within 25 miles of me.

IMO... It would be better to win back lapsed members rather than un-banning potentially volatile ones.

I joined TPL in 2006 and in 2009 simply packed up and walked away after racking up over 2000 posts.
I left following a vicious personal attack on me which was completely ignored by the management.
I would be more than happy to contribute to TPL but only on the conditions that the management get a grip and and take action over such behaviour.
I am retired so I have ample time to contribute and could possibly bring some new members in.
At present I would not attempt to do that as after taking one look at this thread they would say "thats not for me"

PS John.I still call them apetures and not fenestrations. :)

I don't know why they were banned but I don't think it would be a good idea to accept back banned people. Sends the wrong message...

Would be much better to sort the forum out and attract more people. If the forum was more active I'd probably post more often. With it being the way it is at present, I end up forgetting about it for weeks or months and find I am not missing anything about it. Considering how frequently I used to post...that probably means something!

Certainly don't want banned members back at all. When I have suggested old members return, I had in mind members who drifted away or were even put off by the members the forum banned.
That in conjunction with a fresh influx of new people. I suggested on another thread maybe sending an email to our old Universities to attract the next generation of engineers. Or just any tech college etc

Members were banned for good reasons, and it is certainly a last resort in my experience. If they have appealed against banning and the appeal has been rejected we should have confidence that the moderating team considered the appeal carefully, and the ban upheld for good reason.

Inviting banned mamebers to return is not a strategy I would support.

Some members have been banned for good reason, others have not.

I would have thought that the owners of this site could contact all inactive members via email. That could be start to get former members back active, members that haven't been banned obviously.

I think the 'banned' members question is a red herring, The actual number of members who have been banned is tiny, and some have been banned for a long time which would lead me to believe they have long since moved on to other forums...

I would always question their motive for returning to a place they were considerd persona non gratis, in the years of posting on forumns I have rerely seen a person change their views much (although not impossible) so how long before the reason they were banned in the first place begins to happen again.

On the whole attracting new blood and awakening any hibernating members would be the best way forward.
