Personally I have always found it difficult to understand how people can abuse and hurt others. Particularly attacking the weak. I find it very upsetting, particularly in cases of abuse by ignorant stupid men who may, very often, feel justified by tradition or religion.

This is a story from the BBC about a man who cut off his very young wife's fingers simply because she wanted to go to college (and he was not an educated man).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-16201961

The cruelty of the man and his brother is particularly magnified in that her fingers could have been reattached if they got them quickly. He refused and had his brother throw the fingers into the dustbin.

There is also the story of the Afghani woman pardoned from prison for her being adultrous because she was raped.

A few weeks ago very close to my house (I live in a secure village with lots of guards - but outside our walls there is farmland and small settlements) a young girl's body was discovered.

She was a junior high school student who was raped by three neighbors (now in hiding) and then killed and dumped into a rice field.

What is wrong with men?

Much is ignorance and culture. We see a culture of that in south Asia, Asia, the middle east and Africa. Probably China is the newest beacon of hope in that, as women in China do tend to be treated much better than elsewhere in the region.

Of course I see religion - particularly Islam - as what is relied upon to perpetuate male abuse.

I would also say lack of education that now goes back generations. Unfortunately respecting perhaps a billion people there is this misconception that studying a holy book (I use that phrase euphamistically) endless hours a day constitutes valid education.

Here in the Philippines - perhaps the world's largest generator of prostitutes - a very significant number of men do nothing to earn income other than send their wives and girlfriends over seas to support them.

Wish there was something meaningful we can do, but it just costs too much.

Almost we need to start fresh respecting certain populations.

I know I am going to generate a few raised eyebrows on this, though for those of you who think that the ideal vehicle to restore is a Bradley and not a Shelby Cobra, you will probably be overly enthusiastic.

There is a frustration in the world today with virtually everything. People broke and suffering and being asked to give more through no fault of their own (ok some fault but the majority by the greedy bankers and corrupt and useless politicians and similar).

When I consider contributions to our planet's and its inhabitants' well being, I note that some areas of the world are generally not contributing much of value - in fact mostly negative.

Africa? Give me a break. It just asks and asks and asks. Africans are generally some of the cruelest people to its own people anywhere, and has the world's highest percentage of women who are raped (unless you include sex imposed on women in forced marriages).

The Arab world was, at one time more than a thousand years ago, a source of learning and knowledge. That stopped once Mohammed started writing and then died. Ultimately without their oil the world would probably be a much better place.

I personally believe that this free wealth has created the financing to export some pretty ugly thoughts and things, and has created a massive underground pseudo political movement without responsibility.

India is probably going to become a solid global partner - probably with less bitching and arrogance than China. Pakistan, however, almost needs to be eliminated - certainly parts of it.

As the US pulls out of Iraq, the oppression is already starting. It must be in their nature.

Personally, and I am sure my notion is shared by many others, spend as little money on solving these global problems. Responsible nations are criticized no matter what they do. Interfere they are criticized. Do nothing they are demonized.

I like the Reagan thing. Hit the leader's house.

Pull out of the UN, form a new little club, and hit the leaders.

Iran is a perfect example. The President and religious authorities constantly call for the death of America - that to me is a declaration of war.

Go to the world and say "They have declared a war on us, and they are doing it via agents. We now have the right to defend, and will start sending a few cruise missiles their way."

And pick out a few residences. Head of state, head of military, head of police, and head of the religious leaders. No pilots, no lives risked, minimal collateral damage. Message delivered.

I guess I will never be elected. Too bad.
