I know it's just testing, but has Mclaren really dropped that badly?

That would be awful if reflected on the track <sarcasm> <whistle>

Tell you what, almost everybody criticised Williams for dropping Hulkenberg but it seems to me that Maldonado is giving Rubens a much harder time in the first half of his rookie season than Nico did.

different seasons in different cars you canot really compare equally... it is just as easy to say if Maldonado can achieve this just think what Hulkenberg could do... a bit like wondering how well Kubica would fare in the 2011 Renault given what petrov/Heidfeld have managed... we simple can not know.

I think it's a reasonable comparison to compare them to a common team mate. Pastor has done better relative to the most experienced grand prix driver in history at this point in the season than Nico had at the same point last season.

I agree, however there is the added factor that Rubens might just be getting slower too so the difference between the young drivers might not be as significant as performance relative to Rubens might imply.

Of course it's just a guide and cannot be taken as proof that Maldonado is faster than Nico but

a) it's unlikely that Rubens has lost *that* much speed in just one season, and
b) Pastor's performances are proving those who said Williams signed a duffer just for the money wrong

Having said all of that 4 points is desperately disappointing.

Pastor could have more than doubled that total had he not been taken out by an impetuous oaf in the latter stages of the Monaco GP.
