This youtube video highlights a US company which has developed the technology and equipment to "print" objects in 3D, including with moving parts and strong enough to be functional. Right out of Star Trek.

In this video, the company "prints" a working crescent wrench.

Due to my job I've seen working some of them. At this moment they are very expensive and of course only the original form (not the material!) can be reproduced.

But it is very useful tool for prototyping and creating 3D forms directly from the CAD output.
