A quicker tyre for qualifying is one of the ideas Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli is discussing ahead of the 2012 season. Another suggestion from Paul Hembery, the company’s Motorsport Director, is to take three Slick compounds to each race.

I like this idea as it would end saving tires BS and quali could once again be about the fast faster and fastest.

Obviously the article has more than you have chosen to quote, but there are some exciting ideas out of this.

To me perhaps the best idea is to give the teams alternative tyre selections. Car development can then be based on a somewhat known tyre performace range, and the teams can then create strategies for various venues. Some they plan to win (with combination of their car and available tyres) and some they throw away knowing that their car/tyre combination potentials are not going to be the best.

Strategy would become more important and add a new element of uncertainty to the spectacle.

Good work Pirelli. You may have an ass for a Prime Minister, but you still do better work than the French (respecting things such as..... I'll get back to you on that later).
