The McLaren team principal was speaking at Thursday's FOTA Fan Forum held at his team's Woking base. He expressed the importance of the American market to Formula 1, and added that he feels it is worthy of two races.

"I think there should be two races, it's a big enough and important enough market that we should be over there. Long Beach, and around New York, those are the places where we can really create an interest in Formula 1."

Thank you Martin!!!!! <clap> <dance>

Bit harsh on Austin.

Well Texas is a bit different than the rest of the union.

Don't get me wrong as I like Texas, beef, oil, cotton and inexpensive Mexican labor. I believe, like all Texans, that a good meal is a bbq and that should always be cooked in surplus army drums converted to the purpose of cooking at least 275 kilos of meat at a time (beef pork or lamb but never chicken or fish), unless of course you have more than 20 people for dinner, in which case you need two drums.

As such a Texas GP is important. But Whitmarsh is right. The US needs more and in particular outside of Texas.

I prefer California to NY. No one in NY really has cars and they rely heavily on public transport. The real auto market in the US is California.
