Here we go again.................... http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/12062011/58/...d-hamilton.html
Well those with long memories will remember what they used to say about Senna and his dangerous driving. It took his death for that to be swept under the carpet. Personally i don't think he is anywhere near as dangerous as Senna was. Those cars were death traps and I think Lauda is comparing his thoughts on Lewis with the limitations on those cars he raced in. A bit OTT.............AGAIN LAUDA |

Niki's saying it again, only this time a little Lauda. There is something in what he says tho' the problem is that the cars are infinitely safer than they were back in his day and the problem is the 'kids with guns' mentality. Kids love playing war games but have no real understanding of the value of what they are doing, trying to 'kill' each other, so they are desensitized over the power of the weapon. Soem drivers drive in a bubble and others as if they have an imaginary bubble. I think Lewis is just going through a phase of realizing that his bubble can get burst so he shouldn't put it too close to others. If it continues he'll need to realize that it's ALL HIS OWN FAULT at some point. |

I can see Lauda being a little sensitive to potentially dangerous drivers, and Lewis has a track record of giving his brain time off during a race. I still don't think Canada was that bad though. A little overreaction IMO. To add to your point TCG Lewis may be carrying over some frustration for last season where he effectively crashed himself out of a WDC. Seeing this year's title being strangleheld by Vettel is probably adding a bit to his (over) aggression. |

It's a bit like megamind the movie. Hamilton has realized that he can't compete with Mr Goody Two shoes Mertroman aka Vettel and has decided that he's going to be the baddest boy of them all. But seriously, I get the feeling he's watching his F1 career disappear as Vettel looks like he might be unbeateable for a few seasons. That must be frustrating to someone as pure a racer as Hamilton, but you can see that it didn't faze Button, nor Alonso for much of their careers. |

I think Lauda is guilty of using a little hyperbole, but his main point is sound. Hamilton has been overly aggressive these last few races. In Canada it was him who came off worse, but in Monaco he ruined Maldonado's race with his brainlessness. F1 is so safe now that it's unlikely punting someone off the road in a corner (Lewis' favourite move) will cause anyone serious injury. But that doesn't mean that Hamilton shouldn't clean up his act. |

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92359 Bernie is defending him. No real surprise there. The more incidents the more viewers. |

I think Bernie is missing a point a bit. Overtaking yes, and sometimes that results in accidents especially when trying to pass Webber (ok at least it was that way in the past) or other very aggressive defenders. But Hamilton is a bit reckless and has taken out a few others when he should have been a touch more patient. Last race at the beginning I thought it was just a matter of time before he got past Shumi, but in trying too aggressively and too impatiently, he ended behind Button. Then another impatient and premature move and he is out, and Button has a problem. By the way TCG very clever that Lauda thing. |

I just don't think that scenario is likely. Not many teams have managed to retain such an advantage over the rest of the field for such long periods as you allude to in your post. These things are often cyclical Hamilton is far from watching his F1 career disappear but he is red-misting because he is over-driving the car and because he remains somewhat immature and petulant for his age. If Whitmarsh were to grow a pair and bring his driver under control it would probably be better for both Lewis and McLaren. On balance, I believe it would be a good thing for Lewis to leave McLaren. I remember that it wasn't until I left home that I finally began to mature and I think Lewis needs to make a similar rite of passage. He's too molly-coddled, too comfortable at McLaren. When he throws his toys out of the pram Martin Whitmarsh picks them up and says "there there", where what he needs to do is let Lewis learn the hard way that if he throws his toys out of the pram then he won't have any toys left to play with. |

What I meant was that Hamilton thinks he's watching his career disappear. It must be frustrating even before halfway through the year that you've lost another year and will have to wait until next year to mount another challenge. |

There are still 11 more races even Schumacher is in the running still. Lewis is only a win with vettel DNF away from blowing the title race wide open... |

Even Rob could still win the title this year, if some would grant him a seat !

I woke up Little Rob laughing so hard. Thanks for the vote of confidence. And to correct you John, Lewis isn't a win and Vettel DNF from blowing the title open, he's 3 away from leading by a single point. Or more dramatic Vettel is 9 points from having Lewis doubled up. Vettel cannot lose the title lead until Germany at the earliest. |

Lewis, Webber, Alonso and Button will consistently take points off each other throughout the season. That lead is bigger than it looks, not smaller. IMO It would take a spectacular collapse for Vettel to lose the title now. I'd say "stranger things have happened" but actually I don't think they have. |

It has probably added to Hammy's "shit or bust" mentality. |
