we see this many times where a driver takes a risk to save tyres or similar to put in a last gasp stunning lap to take pole only to lose out to an incident that deprives them of the opportunity.

It's obvious Lewis had a chance of Pole and thus a chance of a win, infact I would have put money on a polesitting hamilton winning the race though I suspect it wouldn't return much.

It's also quite likely that had it worked out, the engineers and strategy makers would not have received much attention.

Is Lewis right to whinge, was he (were they) right to take a risk, who thinks he'd have been on pole.

I think he stood a good chance but I believe RBR were holding back and would have responded.

The only person we can say with any certinty who would have been on pole is the guy who ended up on pole... because just as you might say that had X, Y or Z happened then this driver would have been on pole, then the same can be said about the guy who ended up on pole.

Had Lewis gone and posted a faster lap time... we do not know for fact that Vettel would not have responded and gone faster... how many times has Seb gone out in the dying moments and grabbed pole.

One problem facing the drivers is that Quali is just as much about the luck of not being hampared by traffic or rain or accidents as it is about being fastest round the circuit... Today the luck was with Seb and against Lewis... but over a season that I believe evens itself out.

As for Lewis (not for the first time) taking it out on his team, well that is just frustration.. I don't read any more into it than that.

This season so far it has probably been worth the risk of holding onto a set of tyres and only running once in Q3. However, Monaco is a different proposition because getting on pole is so important here and also because there can be more incidents on track that could interrupt Quali.

I was hoping to see a non-RB on pole and it's possible that Lewis could have got there -although I like to think JB could have had a go too because he seemed to be on great form.

I wish Lewis wouldn't take his frustrations out (publically) on his team. He needs to be more philosophical about it -the strategy could equally have worked brilliantly for him. That's what F1 is all about.....

Could be a good race in that case.

They are called gambles because it's not a sure thing. McLaren lost this time, nice to see Lewis taking it all in stride instead of taking it out on his team. <rolleyes>

absolutely right, if it was a sure thing it wouldn't be a gamble it would be "the way"
