Formula 1 drivers will be banned from using the DRS in the tunnel at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix after the FIA reacted to drivers' concerns on Monday, AUTOSPORT can reveal.

On the back of continued fears from drivers that it could be too dangerous to use the DRS through the tunnel in practice and qualifying, FIA race director Charlie Whiting wrote to the Grand Prix Drivers' Association members on Monday to tell them he agreed with their stance.

A good idea IMO. The tunnel it tricky enough in normal trim.

I would have thought that if drivers thought that the DRS was too dangerous to use in the tunnel, they could simply not have pressed the button at that point on the track.

I don't think drivers' minds work like that. If it's there, and will make them go faster, they will use it.

Just curious, that this thread has had 105 views and only 5 (now 6) replies. If there are so many viewers why so few contributors?

Not a clue, but I think the views may be a little screwed up though. You notice if you create a thread, it will immediately show 3 views.

This begs the question, why is DRS use allowed in qualifying at all? <think>
If its a device designed to aid overtaking, its use in qualifying is moot, imho.

Disallowing its use in quali might just make qualifying a bit more interesting.

It is an extra kink, another skill for the drivers to master. He who uses it best or opens the wing a few meters sooner than the others will get a few hundredths over the rest.

Non-members are also following the discussions - there are usually a good number on the site.

Why don't they become members? Pretty painless exercise and doesn't need a credit card.

Well - I am doing my part. I have a mechanic friend from Africa whose wife works for an international organization with two letters, which rules out the IMF and I can tell you now it is not the WB.

He is watching our forum now, whilst fixing my car - I can only hope he keeps his priorities straight.

My greatest concern is if he types with the same accent with which he speaks. Often I have a difficult time understanding what he is saying. Nevertheless, perhaps Ren...us can join us.

And just so everyone knows, I am pretty selective in who I refer this site to. I think our standards should be kept high as we don't want everyone to be uneducated, undisciplined, goofy as that detracts from the site. Frankly I think in that respect I am more than enough!

A key qualification for me, before I let anyone know this site address - they have to have internet access.
