Petrov just clocked P2 here in Q1, so the Renault looks fairly strong. Too bad for poor Heidfeld, as he has not even yet set a time here in Q1 after his exhaust broke this morning with a massive fire as result. Think they have to rebuild most of his car... Ferrari also seem busy in their garage after the FIA last night determined Ferrari was running an illegal new rear wing design. Alonso still posting a P5 in Q1, so maybe they are OK? |

Wow - Maldonado puts his Williams on P8 in Q2, ahead of Petrov and Massa. Lets see how well he goes in Q3. Barrichello back in P19, may wonder what happened/could have been... |

Very strange here today. 2 minutes left of Q3 and 6 cars have not yet set a time. Only Red Bulls and McLaren. Michael Schumacher now even puts his car into the garage, opting not to set any time here in Q3 and starting in P10 in the race tomorrow. All this just to save the tires for the race. Is this really the kind of quali and racing we want? |

I can see some of the top ten not going out to save a set of softs, but interesting that Michael went out on hards. Why the ruse? |

For me, no! I miss the balls-to-the-wall quali we had in the past. Looks like tomorrow's race may be a big I'll still watch, mind

You are correct Pasta, lots of race/tire strategy playing out here already in the quali today. Tells you something when we saw Alonso genuinely happy for just being P4. The polesitter has won the race the last many years in Barcelona, so outlook good for Webber to win for once over his teammate. |

They should allow one extra set of tires for getting into Q3. This lethargic approach to Q3 to save tires for the race is not fare to fans. MS is being praised for not racing at all in Q3, is Q3 representing the pinnacle of motor sport and strategy or merely just a boring chess game? If not putting in a lap is seen to be good for your race, the qualifying needs changing ASAP!! |
