Fernando Alonso drove a Ferrari Formula 1 car for the first time this week when he took part in the shooting of a commercial that revealed the Italian's squad new colours for the 2010 season.

Alonso took to the Paul Ricard circuit in last year's F60 car, but the car sported a new livery with the Santander branding very visible on both the front and the rear wings, as well as on the car's mirrors.

The Spanish banking giant signed a five-year deal with the Maranello-based squad last year, coinciding with Alonso's arrival at the team to replace Kimi Raikkonen.

The short run at the French circuit was Alonso's first with his new team before the two-time champion begins proper work with the 2010 car at Valencia next month.

Ferrari's new challenger will be official unveiled on 28 January.

Just a very slightly bluer blue on the top of that lid and you could be forgiven for thinking that someone else was driving that car.....

The white front/rear wing looks good... having an actual sponsor instead os the 'bar code' is nice also

Pretty much anything would be better than the barcode

They probably got special dispensation from the FIA, I think they can do stuff like that using very hard testing tires, and they have to keep it under a certain speed. A bit like Nick Heidfeld at the Nordschleife a few years ago.

Anyway the car looks good.

FIA rule permit the use of cars for promotional use... some stipulation about only straight line runs or maximum speed apply but otherwise totally legit...

It's the reports of Massa in the 2008 car I was more concerned with, however I guess last year drivers could only test 2007 cars, as we are now 2010 the rolling ban on testing cars under two years old mean the 2008 cars are now eligible... so again totally legit

I assumed it must be legit, but didn't know quite how . . . thanks for the explanation ;-) Appreciated.

Just as well that Toyota pulled out then. That really could have been confusing.

However we still have the potential of two silver-liveried teams. <no>

As regards the Santander livery, I was expecting the colours on the rear wing to be inverted, i.e. red background with white text. Similarly a red front wing. I prefer the all-red design myself.
