Well, guess no other objective would suffice for those two? If you do not join comitted to win, why care at all. GPUpdate.net 18 January 2010 For Mercedes Grand Prix Team Principal Ross Brawn, the expectations are high ahead of the 2010 World Championship season. If the Englishman would have to place a bet on who will become this year's Drivers' Champion, all money would be placed on own driver Michael Schumacher. After three sabbatical years, Michael Schumacher will return to Formula 1 this year and will once again join forces with Ross Brawn. The Briton expects to be very competitive again in the upcoming season. When asked by German magazine Bild who he would put his money on Brawn's answer was clear: "If I had to bet on any of the championship candidates I would put my money on Michael for the Formula 1 championship title this year. "I don't expect Michael to win the first races. He will need a few races to get comfortable again and get used to the other cars and new drivers in Formula 1. But it won't be long until we will see the Schumacher we used to see. Michael's strength is adapting and learn very easily." Brawn: Schumacher will win the championship |

To be fair, Brawn hasn't said that Schumacher WILL win the WDC, just the if he had to bet, he'd bet on him. I'm quite sure that Martin Whitmarsh would be betting on Lewis Hamilton, Stefano Domenicali on Alonso, and of course, Ralf Schumacher probably thinks he'd win too, if he actually had a drive. |

Didn't Ross/Maca pretty much bet 7 million Shumi will win the title? |

Brawn is blowing smoke. If Shumi can consistently beat Nico, it will be a good year back. Beating Hamilton, Vettel and Alonso will be a little tougher.

Brawn probably thinks that any good driver seating in his very fast car should win it the way button did. However, I don't think MercedesGP will have a head start like BrawnGP had last year. Or he had once again found a loop hole in the rules.

To be fair, looking at the form, I doubt that the Merc GP car will have any advantage at all. I expect the red bulls and McLarens to at least be on a par. |

I wouldn't bet on Schumi taking the 2010 WDC at this stage. But then, I wouldn't bet against him winning it either. It's far too early to tell whether he has what it takes, or whether the car will be at the sharp end. |

But the nature of loop holes are that they are legitimate, and as I recall they were not alone in taking advantage of the loophole and just how much advantage it truly gave them is unclear as Red Bull sans double diffuser was doing fine... I think there is a marked difference in thinking you have a chance to win the championship and saying you will win it... Schumacher has not said he will win it only he is coming back to try and win it.. Ross might know something we don't...

Current odds from Willy H: Selection Odds Lewis Hamilton 12/5 Fernando Alonso 4/1 Michael Schumacher 9/2 Sebastian Vettel 6/1 Jenson Button 13/2 Felipe Massa 9/1 Nico Rosberg 12/1 Mark Webber 16/1 Robert Kubica 33/1 Nick Heidfeld 40/1 Rubens Barrichello 50/1 Kamui Kobayashi 66/1 Nico Hulkenberg 66/1 Adrian Sutil 80/1 Bruno Senna 100/1 Heikki Kovalainen 125/1 Jarno Trulli 125/1 Timo Glock 125/1 Vitantonio Liuzzi 200/1 Sebastien Buemi 250/1 Lucas di Grassi 250/1 Jamie Alguersuari 500/1 They're obviously pretty happy that he's in with a good chance. However, until we get some testing times, we won't really know for sure. Even then, they aren't always accurate. Still, this time last year we all thought Brawn were running hugely underweight to grab some sponsors, McLaren and Ferrari were sandbagging, and we all know how that panned out.... |

pretty much what I've been thinking Hamilton/Alonso strongest Schumacher/Vettel and Button closer... with 11 WDC titles between four of them be nice for Vettel to join the club, but I don't hold out much hope... but would loved to be proved wrong... |

Hamilton's short odds reflect that he has an excellent chance of winning the title, as well as the obvious fact that a lot of UK money will be going on him pre-season. |
