Nelson Piquet Jr gives up on Formula 1 for Nascar drive "But he said on his website: "My first 18 months in F1 did not go as planned. So I have chosen a route in America." Piquet tested for the Red Horse Racing pick-up truck racing team last November but has not specified which category he will race in next season." I think he found his level, driving trucks in the second or third division http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport...one/8454905.stm Mark |

I cannot imagine him back in F1. He never looked good in the car, and only "helped" when he crashed. |

This is a guy where the best contribution he could offer his team was to crash his car. How pittyful and low is that. So a driver who deliberately crashed his F1 car in a solo 'accident'. Told to or not, I do not care. He did it. How can he stand himself after that. I wish he never returns. |

Racing in the USA reduces the risk of crashing due to the lack of corners in the sport(s) |

Guess they will put him on Prozac to calm his nerves then, as he will be bewildered trying to count until reaching turn 17. |

well he's right on the basis that on the truck series schedule is 100% ovals, Cup use the Glen and Sonoma and I haven't seen the Nationwide schedule yet but they usually go to Mexico road course, the Glen and Montreal he did test for Red Horse in the trucks, the Camping World Truck Series is seen as the 3rd division of the NASCAR major series but the truck series does have specialists in it such as Ron Hornaday Jr, Jack Sprague and Ted Musgrave so it's not always a 'natural progression' series to get to cup If Piquet does have a drive in NASCAR he'd better running Nationwide because they often double their weekends with Cup so he'd learn the ovals and race with some good drivers (lots of cup drivers run Nationwide as well) And on the subject of trolling, I no longer listen to or value the opinions of F1 fans that are clueless on NASCAR because the most high profile F1 driver to make the jump to NASCAR is Juan Pablo Montoya, multiple race winner in F1 and serious title challenger currently has 0 wins on NASCAR ovals in three seasons....... |

Though you personally may not rate him high, would you not say that Jacques Villeneuve with his F1 WDC and more wins in that serie than Montoya is the highest ranking F1 profile in term of pure results to make the switch to NASCAR? That said, think Jacques V has never qualified or finished a NASCAR race yet higher than in 4-6th position... |

JV never had a full time gig, he ran a couple of races in a Bill Davis car but never had a long term contract, it was much bigger story when JPM left F1 IIRC JPM has a team that's now being built completley around him and has been in NASCAR 3 and a bit seasons |

True it is proving to be a long haul... but he is improving and was a strong contender in the early stages of the chase... He is committed to the series so has the right mind set and while he may never be a NASCAR champion surely an Oval win is only a matter of time. |

On Piquet Jr. I thought when it said trucks they where akin to the truck racing you used to see in the UK, when it is actually pick-up trucks... considering the popularity of pick up in the USA it makes for a good entry sport as most teenagers will have had plenty of experience driving/racing with mates in pick ups. |

his improvement over the last 3 seasons has been excellent, he's adapted himself to the COT as well as anybody, he justs need to know when to take his foot off the gas now and then he also seems to have a knack of getting caught up in the big crashes at the restrictor plate tracks i'd say he'd probably win an oval race this season |

I'd suggest that, at the time of JPMs switch, he had a higher profile than JV. On the subject of difference in motorsport knowledge and opinion, I admit that I know very little about NASCAR and don't really pass comment on it. From what I have seen (without sky, I have very little access to the coverage), the superspeedway races are pretty entertaining but the shorter ovals, where overtaking is harder, seem to be less so. Though I do asmit that for stateside motorsport, I was always more of an open wheels fan (mainly due to Mansell's defection in 93). Besides, give me a good touring car race any day, now that is entertainment. |

ignorant on NASCAR I am, it was just my attempt at a little off season light humour to warm the long cold dark nights. |
