I wonder if he will retain the 'red' helmet... he already has the Mercedes logo on the front so maybe...

Well the Mercedes car couldn't possibly look any uglier, so the addition of a red helmet won't make any difference.

Until they launch the car and we see the drivers lines up we won't really know... Did the vogue for having your helmet match the car start with Schumacher when he switched to Red...

I love the Yellow of the Senna/Hamilton lids personally

If you want a yellow livery on your lid, then surely the only one worth having would be Joey Dunlop's?

as he is two wheeled I am less familiar with his lid... but google image shows it to be mostly solid yellow... nice

I was going to get one, but the last time Arai did a replica it was £600 and sold out in moments. As it was, I couldn't get the Nori Haga lid I was after, and instead I am Colin Edwards (2007).

I seem to remember Schumacher switching to read when he was teamed up with Barrichello as his old design was very similar to Ruben's lid.

Yeah, I think that was the official reason for the change. As Schumi's most successful period coincided with his red helmet that is how he is predominantly remembered .... although he did actually use the German flag-coloured helmet for longer.

That was nice of him instead of making Rubens change.

Indeed... but it also in Michael's favour as he held his own licences for merchandising and a new helmet meant fans need to update their stuff... :)

From the Grandmaster of Big$ Merchandising himself:

Michael explains how his helmet's paint scheme came about:
"From the area of the visor you see the traditional German black-red-gold. I chose the colours years ago with a friend of mine and I changed it only slightly, mostly to include sponsor decals. The blue circle with the white stars on the top was his idea. After joining Ferrari I added the prancing horse on the back. "

Michael's early helmet colours:

Since the European GP in 2000, Michael has raced with a modified helmet design. The blue circle on the top in now painted light red. The white Marlboro stripe around the top is also now red. The change was made to prevent confusion between himself and Barrichello, whose design was confusingly similar.

Michael's later helmet colours:

Only reason M Schumacher helmet was red is the fact he signed for Ferrari.

His helmet will not be red at the start of the season

But wasn't he known as the Red Barron before the Ferrari move?
