Yes I was too lazy to google proper spelling, except for Brawn, I think that was just a brain fart.

And I thought it was a clever deliberate typo, as the Mercedes team and all their colluding members seem to become more and more Germanized for every day we get closer to D launch day, all while Ross is busy attending German language classes these evenings, preparing his German citizenship application and name change to R. von Braun. :)

The bulk of the Germans will be the same as were at McLaren and spoke English well enough... and Ross spent all those years with the Italian team and managed the language barrier.

From the horse's mouth:

Pedro de la Rosa is the BMW Sauber F1 Team’s second driver for the 2010 season. The 38-year-old Spaniard has 71 Grands Prix under his belt and worked with McLaren as a test and reserve driver for seven years. In December the Swiss team had already announced it had signed on Kamui Kobayashi (23, Japan).

“Pedro has spent many years working for a top team at the highest technical level,” pointed out Team Principal Peter Sauber, adding: “We as a team stand to gain from his experience, and the same goes for young Kamui. The combination of a seasoned racer and an up-and-coming young driver has repeatedly proved a very fruitful one. I don’t expect either of them to disappoint in 2010. Of course it is also crucial that we provide them with a decent car; I feel positive about our in-house progress on that front too. We were able to continue work on our 2010 car as scheduled throughout the recent period of uncertainty.”

From Autosport...

After seven years as McLaren's test driver, Pedro de la Rosa is making his return to Formula 1 racing with the BMW Sauber team.

Here's ten facts about the Spaniard:

• Pedro de la Rosa made his grand prix debut in 1999 in Australia, having tested an F1 car for the first time the previous year when he drove a Jordan. He finished his first race in sixth position, scoring a point for the Arrows team.

• Before joining Formula 1, the Spanish driver spent a few years racing in Japan, where he won the Formula 3000 and GT championships.

• During his ten-year stint in F1, he has raced for Arrows, Jaguar and McLaren, his best championship position an 11th place in 2006, when he scored 19 points.

• De la Rosa has competed in 84 grands prix, his best result a second place at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, the scene of Jenson Button's first victory. His last full season was with the Jaguar team in 2002.

• At 38, de la Rosa will be the second oldest driver on the Formula 1 grid in 2010, only behind Michael Schumacher, 41.

• He has been McLaren's test and reserve driver for seven years, and has taken part in 353 days of testing since the start of his career. Only Luca Badoer, Alex Wurz, Jarno Trulli and David Coulthard have spent more days testing.

• With 29 points scored, including one podium and one fastest lap, he is the second most successful Spaniard to have raced in Formula 1, only behind Fernando Alonso.

• With de la Rosa joining Alonso and Jamie Alguersuari on the grid in 2010, it will be the first time ever that Spain has three grand prix drivers on track.

• The Catalan is the chairman of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association.

• His nickname is 'the Barcelona Bullet', although he was also nicknamed 'Nippon Ichy' - the number one - when he raced in Japan.

I notice that Autosport continues to refer to the team as BMW Sauber... <think>

Aren't they keeping that name for this year for some rather odd reason?

Anyway, I suspect PdlR will be about as much use as Luca Badoer. Great for testing, too rusty to race.

Aren't they keeping that name for this year for some rather odd reason?

Earlier from autosport.com:
Quote:

...with the team's 2010 entry having been lodged last season with 'BMW' in the title, the team cannot simply amend the name without the approval of the Formula 1 Commission.
The team has not yet made a formal application to change the name, and a spokesperson told AUTOSPORT that plans had not yet been finalised to do so.
"The team is currently called the BMW Sauber F1 Team, and this is the name which we stated in the entry form for the 2010 championship" he said. "At this point in time there is no firm date as to when we will submit an application for a name-change."
The changing of a name will require the support of rival teams, plus that of the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone. Even Brawn GP's switch to Mercedes GP - plus the fact it would keep its television rights money - was only approved on an ‘exceptional' basis late last year.
A statement issued after the last F1 Commission meeting in Monaco in December said: "The F1 Commission agreed that the Brawn team will be allowed to change its chassis name from Brawn to Mercedes. The team will continue to receive payments based on its historical performance.
"This has been granted on a one-off exceptional basis due to Mercedes-Benz's long-term involvement and commitment to Formula 1."
