The spanish media AS has revealed after the involvement of NESTLE as main sponsor Sauber will sign this week McLaren test driver Pedro de La Rosa.

If true, although not a top driver, De La Rosa will be a great asset for Sauber.

Terrible google translation, but better than nothing.

He is fine, but if it is experienced hands they need and someone who has driven recently I think they missed an opportunity in not signing Heidfeld.

Hedfeild?... <doh> silly me he's German, hes'n it?

Maybe Sauber is looking for someone who can bring a lot to car design. After all De La Rosa has ben working many years with a very successful team and he might be an important part of this success.

I believe he is Iberia and the nationality of De la Rosa is...?

Well actually, I take your point, after all De la Rosa is not Spanish he is Catalan... which is not the same thing <thumbsup>

Anyway that silliness aside.... I named Heidfeld because he has a good record in F1 for finishing races and scoring valuable team points... he knows the team and they know him and has a long history with Peter Sauber... <thumbsup>

PDLR will be 39 by the first race of this season, he last raced an F1 car in 2006 and had 71 starts (and a whopping 19 WDC points)

NH has by contrast will not be 33 until May, has raced in every season since 2000 has 160 races under his belt and has amassed 219 WDC points in his career...

PDLR it is clear is driving because of the sponsorship/money he will bring and not any in dept ability to design F1 cars.

These are just their stats... their passport is irrelevant... Heidfeld on paper is the better choice, he just cannot bring as much money to the team as PDLR

It will be outrageous if Heidfeld is left without a drive for next year. However, even supposing this is confirmed, Renault is still a possibility.

It makes little difference. Both PdlR and Heidfeld are nothing more than journeymen who will do little but score minor points places no matter what car they drive.

Heidfeld has never had a car good enough to challenge for wins (realistically, I know the BMW in 2008 got one win, but that was only because Hamilton took Raikkonen out in the pits, and Massa was suffering problems and had fallen back through the field). Until last year, many would have had Button down as a journeyman too. But Nick like Jenson, and many other drivers, could probably win races or even championships in the right circumstances. In any case, to suggest he deserves a seat less than the likes of Di Grassi, Kobayashi, De la Rosa, Senna, or the probable stature of the USF1 candidates is absurd.

Any driver who has shown next to no promise can win a title in the right car. Just look at 2009.

Seriously though, I think Heidfeld is a class apart from Pedro and it would be a tremendous shame were a driver of his calibre to be left without a drive.

meh! You should be like me <angel>

If you dislike everybody equally then you can't be accused of favouritism.

Hamilton is arrogant, Nico is a plonker, Schumi is a cheat, Alonso behaves like a spoilt child, Kimi is a lazy drunkard .... alone in all of F1 Rubens and The Hulk have ability, style, class and dignity.

Yep. Overtaking Nick is difficult if not impossible. I consider him a very complete and strong driver.

I wonder how many drivers could win a championship if they had the right car.

What about Vettel, Webber, Kubica, Massa, and Nakajima?
