Kubica to stay with Renault acording the The Independent This is the first confirmation of this that I have seen, apologies if it is old news.
Can't help thinking he'd have been better off at Williams ..... I reckon Team Willy will have a quicker car than Renault for the next few seasons. Why? Because Williams appear to be both stable and progressively, season on season, recovering pace where Renault do not and have, due to Crashgate, lost two key members of staff who I think they'll find difficult to replace and whose absence will have a negative impact on the team. Not to mention that I think Rob would have been better for Williams than Rubens. Damn I'm going to find it hard to support him, even if he is in a Williams. |

I'd rather have Kubica in the Williams than Rubens.... especially if it is going to be quick |

And so would I. I am not yet convinced about Kubica. Over the two seasons at BMW Heidfield actually performed better. |

Ok, but over any two consecutive seasons of his career has Rubens been better than *any* of his team-mates? I'm not sure I agree that Frank would rather have Rubens, I suspect it is more likely that either Kubica was not interested or was not within Frank's budget. Must admit though that I think Frank missed another trick by not (re)landing Nick. |

It was three and a bit seasons that Heidfeld and Kubica were together, and apart from about the first 10 races in 2008 Heidfeld (where Kubica was stronger) was variously either nip-and-tuck, shaded the battle or, as in the case of 2007, saw off Robert fairly comfortably. sportsman said nothing about two consecutive seasons. Anyway, Rubens was paired with Schumacher for the best years of his career, and yet since then has managed to be competitive with Button in the Honda/Brawn. And I think Rubens would be a better choice for Williams than Kubica for financial reasons - he would probably demand much less than kubica and bring about as much home. |

to a degree.... however the fact Williams has signed Rubens makes the notion of Kubica in a Williams academic but proves nothing... just because Frank signed Rubens does not mean he would prefer Rubens over Kubica... maybe Frank did not have the opportunity to sign Kubica so went with what he could get... we simply don't know... but I very much doubt a man as canny as Frank Williams would rate Kubica over Rubens based on ability, on how little he could get away with paying his driver, Yes he would definitely go with Rubens

Fair enough, Kubica was tied to Renault at the time Rubens signed for Williams. However, I think that Frank would have gone with Rubens anyway, if 'only' for financial reasons. |

if it's any consolation.... I would have gone with Rubens for financial reasons, plus I concede that loosing Rosberg and debuting Hulkenberg meant playing safe with Rubens may prove inspired. |

Hmm can't help thinking you're being picky about the word "consecutive". We all appear to be agreed that it is likely that Kubica is able to demand more money than Rubens .... why do you think that might be if Rubens is as good a driver? |

Oh bugger, I forgot it's getting towards that time when I need to start supporting Rubens. It's going to be so difficult! Here's hoping that he does indeed turn out to be both inspired and an inspired choice. Can't help thinking that what with Rubens being the sort of guy who needs a cuddle from time to time and with Frank and Pat not being exactly what you might call touchy-feely this is not a recipe for success. Please, please let me be wrong! |

Sorry Petra, but I see it playing out thus - RB : The team cost me a podium/ point/ lunch/ dinner / etc. etc., blah blah blah .... ![]() FW & PH : Rubens. Suck it up & get on with it. Or else f**k orf! Of course, for your sake, I hope I'm wrong

Could be .... but on the other hand he'll likely not in in contention for the title and it's unlikely that he'll suspect that the team are favouring the Hulk. Maybe with no world title at stake he'll feel under less pressure. |

Hopefully. I'd be happy to be spared his bleating. It might all kick off if the Hulk starts beating him I'm very keen to see how Hulkenberg does. From what I've seen of him, he looks to be something of a special talent

Then again on the other hand (how many hands have we got?) I can only imagine how Rubens might react if Frank complains, as he did last season, that he believes his drivers are not maximising the potential of the car. |
