Clever idea if he can implement it.As far as I can ascertain he is not breaking any FIA regulations. Niether would the teams taking advantage of his scheme. "He claims that with F1's strict in-season testing ban in place, Stefan GP, because it is outside the restrictions imposed on competing teams, will be able to finance its testing through teams and drivers paying for the privilege of running with it. "We will offer teams, who are changing drivers during the season, or even young drivers themselves, the chance to test our car so they can gain experience," he said. "It will be purely a commercial operation." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80693 |

As they are not F1 entrants Stefan GP are not bound by the F1 Sporting Regulations or the Concorde Agreement, so in theory they can do whatever the hell they like. Presumably the team's aim is to prove themselves as a viable outfit, then get themselves accepted onto an entry list in the future. I'm not convinced it will happen though - Stefan GP won't be high on the FIA's list of favourites after they began legal action (since dropped) over the Cosworth issue. Furthermore they have the "blacklisted" Mike Coughlan working for them, and I think there are some doubts over the background of Stefanovic himself. |
