Sportsman what's this obsession with main stream news? We are petrol heads and the majority of motor sport is almost underground as it is of no interest to main stream news at all. F1 only gets headlines as it is arguably the pinnacle of the sport and attracts the rich and famous to the GP's. So if I say MS has generated a lot of interest in the media, that media can only be the sports news. To get any main stream news, which he has done, is a massive achievement when its about motor sport. To further cement this point, if you are going to bring your relatives into this, I am sure we all have family who are so disinterested in the sport they only remember the last thing they took any interest in which maybe was five years ago, hell many kids didn't know MS had even retired to make a comeback. Mainstream are only interested in the romantic story line, ex-champ returns to the sport in his sporting twilight years. Its the only formula of film Hollywood can sell when it comes to sport. If its not the driver then in films like days of thunder its the guy that builds the car, if its not an ex-champ its the little team taking on the corporate big teams. Motor sport is a total bore to 95% of the planet, the sports pages are full of Football, boxing, the national games of interest to that country be it cricket baseball or American football and then buried somewhere you might find a paragraph on motor sport. Unless a driver is shagging some pop star and the paparazzi take an interest in her and then mention the driver. So to sum up, making any news is a revelation when it comes to motor sport, and when its not got a "gate" attached to it and its about the sport itself, it can only be a good thing for F1. Like MS or not, his return has given F1 an advert that will attract new fans to the sport next season. That said, I will not be supporting him now he is not driving for my team. |

[/QUOTE] I think you have answered my point exactly. Schumachers return is mainstream news. Not as you say buried away in the sportsnews. And the fact that it is not attached to any scandals is a positive point in F1's favour |
