Sorry but if he has Ferrari must have known they were not looking good for 2009. They just about won the Championship last year so they must have thought they would be near the back of the grid if Kimi's performance clause was this low. Not many people feel Massa is a great driver but he has shown Kimi up for the last 2 years. If it had not been for his accident Massa again would have had more points than Kimi at the end of this years Championship. Ok Kimi drove well in Hungry but it has been a longtime since we have seen such a performance. Kimi's heart is not in F1 now and he needs to move on |

Plenty of people feel Massa is a great driver now. Maybe not 2 and a half years ago, but I think he has definitely changed perceptions. Maybe Ferrari have not confirmed Raikkonen yet because of Massa's accident and the attempts to find a replacement. If we don't hear anything by Monza, maybe he could be leaving, but I think Raikkonen has done OK this year, certainly better than last year when he was given a new deal for this year and next. |

Other than Monaco I don't get it. All the WDC title holders are struggling this year. Kimi has two podiums to Alonso's nil and Lewis' one. He has one point less than Hamilton and 5 more than Alonso, despite having mechanical DNF's in Aus, Spain and Germany. Why is Kimi getting all the flack? And so what if he goes rallying in between races? There's no testing allowed, remember. Lewis and Button are doing triathlons... does this mean that they are going to retire from F1 and become triathletes next year? The other WDC's may be beating their team mates, but Kimi's team mate lost out on a WDC by one point and was driving extremely well until his accident, so it's hardly a reason to say that he's under-performing. I really wish the racing would start and put an end to this boredom-induced silliness. Kimi has a contract for 2010, he is the second-highest paid sportsman in the world and is one point behind and 5 points ahead of two other world champions. Why on earth would he retire? |

I assume that any performance clauses would be percentage based against your teammate at a set point in the season, so in a bad year you would reach the threshold even with poor results generally... or something like that... |

Here's what James Allen says about the situation at Ferrari: "Behind the scenes the team has been looking for a way to strike a deal with Kimi Raikkonen to leave a year early, presumably so that Alonso can start racing for Ferrari in 2010. This has not been successful so far. So the problem it has been wrestling with was that if it wanted to run Alonso next year, which it has an option to do, it has three drivers for two cars; Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso." http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2009/08/what...xt-driver-move/ If I were Raikkonen and the team were openly trying to push me out, I'd probably call it a day. Perhaps he's holding out for a decent settlement - or maybe he really does want to stay? |

Maybe this was why luca di montezemolowas talking about having 3 cars running next year I think that it will be Massa and Alonso if Massa makes a full recovery which I really hope he does. The fact that Ferrari have let Kimi take part in rallies where he has managed to roll his car is not the behaviour of a team who want him to drive for them next year. Also on the potential Massa/Alonso pairing I think Alonso would be fine as he knows that Massa is capable of challenging him and the team will not make him a No 2 driver so I cant see the same sort of problems arising. Also Alonso has defintely matured since returning to Renault and I cant see him isolating himself from the other big team in F1 as if he wants to win more WDCs Ferrari is his best option. |

Which is why he signed a contract for another year in 2008 As for suggesting that Ferrari are letting him rally and risk getting injured because they don't value him ... any idea how much screen time Fiat gets with him behind the wheel of a Punto? Just having him taking part in the WRC in one of their cars more than justifies his salary, not to mention the WCC points he's earned in an uncompetetive car that's broken down three times in ten races.Notice that JA supplies no source for his 'behind the scenes' assertion that Ferrari are trying to push Kimi out. Pure speculation from someone trying to fill space on his blog during the mid-season break. |

Has it occured to anyone that may be Kimi only signed on beyond 2009 because he knew that Ferrari were wanting alonso and Kimi wants a big pay off? OK, it's only speculation but it kind of fits. |

Kimi doesn't strike me as the sort who is too bothered about making masses of money, never mind political shenanigans to do it |

Did he? I thought he just said he'd like to drive for Ferrari, and Ferrari said, here, have lots of money as you're still going to cost less than MS when he retires.....? |
