I guess that depends on how fit he is when he returns, assuming that he does. At present, it sounds like he's going to make a full recovery, but until two days ago it sounded like MS was going to be filling in for him. Making the assumption that he's fit and healthy, I'd see no reason for him to be dropped, especially in comparison to the lacklustre Kimi. The Satander move to Ferrari, as forecast to be announced at Monza is surely a sign that Alonso will be there, and to be honest I would be reasonably surprised if it wasn't next year. Kimi's been off rallying a couple of times, and I wouldn't have thought that it's simply because he felt like it.... |

It all depends on Massa. Would not be suprised if he sat out 2010 and it was Kimi and Alonso. This gives Massa longer to regain his fitness and strength and also would help Ferrari not having to buy Kimi out of his contract |

If Massa was to sit out 2010, I could see him not getting his seat back, as there would be too many other talented drivers vying for a Ferrari drive, assuming they get their act together. Potentially there would be Alonso, Vettel, Kubica, Rosberg, Webber and several others who might want a go.... |

Kimi has a contract for 2010, as does Massa. Why are we even having this poll? |

Thats a very good point. F1 can change alot in one year. Hopefully Massa will be fit but you can never tell with an injury like his. He has to go with what his doctor tells him as the G force in a F1 car does as we know not only affect the muscles in your body. My friend had to stop karting after a bad car accident as he was blacking out and feeling unwell while back racing. He is fine to drive now but not to race |

Kimi will only be in the Ferrari if he continues to perform like he did in Hungry. A contract means NOTHING in sport |

I would be. I Massa sits out 2010 it will be VERY hard for him to return. I suspect quite strongly if his recovery continues at this pace we will see him back by Brazil. |

Well, it means you get a nice payoff if they decide to break it. ![]() This year though, Kimi has generally been pretty close to Massa, and with a bit more luck would have had more points by now (although had Massa had more luck he would also have had more points, particularly early in the season). I don't see Ferrari taking the dual financial hit of paying off Raikkonen's contract and hiring Alonso in 2010, when the Santander deal could well have been made under the agreement that Alonso join Ferrari in 2011 instead. Also, I think Massa will be back by Australia next year at the latest. If he is not fit enough by then, and I am certain he will be, I suspect he may retire rather than try and come back the following year. For someone who will then be approaching thirty, taking a year off will be tough to come back from and be competitive. |

Alonso would be pretty stupid to pin his 2010 hopes on Kimi not performing or Massa not recovering. |

I cannot disagree with that. Alonso did have a number of immature outbursts in 06 and 07, but I think the return to Renault last year and the struggles this year have helped his maturity greatly. Nothing makes you appreciate the good times like going through the shit. I think he is much more humble now than he was a few years ago. |

Which if you read the thread you would see I’d already mentioned ![]() But like Jim says, contracts mean very little |

Two words in Kimi's contract: Performance clauses. Ferrari might not need to buy him out, especially if the clause is based on a certain number of points rather than a percentage. |

Wasn't it rumoured around Hungary that Raikkonen had fulfilled his performance clauses for this season? |

Yeah, those are the rumours. However, if that is the case, I'm surprised that we haven't heard anything official as this is usually the time of year that options expire. |
