So he finally gets his chance in a F1 race.

But for me this is not the case.

Ferrari will use Badoer as a test driver throughout the whole race meeting as its the only thing he is good at.

Badoer going past <tumbleweed> <roflmao>

Just remember what happened the last time a Italian joined Ferrari after Alesi was injured <yikes>

Does it really matter, one reason they went along with Schumacher is because their season is pretty much over, so Schumacher, Badoer or Géne it was never a gamble with regards to the season.

Badoer will do his best as if he concentrates might get a few points for Ferrari...

Yeah, Larini finished second. Not too shabby.

Good news.

I have no doubt that even at 38, Badoer will be as excited as a little kid in a sweet shop about this, which is the main reason I wanted him to get the chance ahead of Schumacher in the first place. Now that Schumi has pulled out, it will probably be a bit of a downer on his Ferrari race debut, but still, a first ever points finish isn't out of the question, and wouldn't that be a story.

It would indeed... however it would have been better had he been announced in the first place.... I fear that no matter how well he does (even winning the race) there will always be that cloud... Michael would have done better.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. However, Badoer just has to try and block that out and not worry about the sour grapes of several hundreds of thousands of Schumacher fans. It'll be hard since pretty much all he'll be asked in media interviews will be 'Schumacher this, Schumacher that', but hopefully Ferrari will be encouraging and supporting him in the build-up to his big chance.

Indeed he did, and drove a solid race

I don’t see what point Jim is making with that comment

LOL.... a bit like those sour grapes we are hearing from non schumacher fans hearing what is quite obviously a fact... Badoer is the replacement to the replacement of Massa.... and anything Badoer can achieve in Valencia can and most probably would have been bettered had Michael been driving.

I have in no post, since the news came out of Schumacher's withdrawal and Badoer's subsequent appointment, made any comment other than I expect Luca will do he very best... that I believe it will not be as good as Michael is no reflection on Badoer... That is reality...

I seem to remember Salo doing a pretty stand up job as a replacement too, nearly embarrassing their contracted driver at one point. Is it just a coincidence that Irvine was released by Ferrari at the end of the year?

The official story always was that Irvine, having had a chance for WDC glory, was tired of playing second fiddle to Schumacher and went to seek a number one role at Jaguar. That they never looked like winning a race, let alone challenging for a championship, was just one of those things.

Technically they did win a race........

When they were still Steward GP.

I tell you what, Max couldn't have been further from the truth when he called JYS a certified half-wit. It was pure genius how he got ford to fund his team, then actually managed to sell it back to them when he wanted out.

didn't he sell because his son got very ill... and was deemed to be stress related to running an F1 team...

Still as you say he still made on the deal.

The non-Schumacher fans too. My post was in no way directed against any particular driver or their fans per se, just the people who are insensitively letting their feelings about Schumacher's comeback failing, cause them to make certain comments about his replacement which are a little unfair.

Also, Salo did a great job in '99, don't get me wrong, it just seems unfair that having been Ferrari's official reserve driver Badoer was elbowed aside.

The Schumacher return did come out of left field, I could not believe the reports when I heard them first... I think if the situation has occurred when teams still have the 3rd driver driving each GP Friday then without doubt then Badoer would have gotton the nod... It was IMO, the combination of the long break between Hungary and Valencia GP's and the ban on testing all season and the standing of Ferrari in the championship that created the idea that Schumacher could drive.

Badoer on paper has not driven the F60 since December 2008... plus with Berni pushing it Luca was sidelined (unfairly maybe) but then this is F1.

Well yes, but any promise Stewart showed was obliterated once Ford took over the reins. Kind of like BAR and Honda .... can anyone spell "corporate mismanagement?"
