I guess the question is who will replace Massa? I hope it is Gene so as to make the Spanish crowd a bit happier with the absence of Alonso. But I honestly would like to see a young gun taking over.

Without M Schumacher now racing the FIA BETTER make sure Alonso is at the gp or the place will be a ghost town.

I thought with M Schumacher being there they could get off with Alonso not racing but now they must

Not too much faith since Alonso commented to the Spanish media that "To be the FIA President you don't have to be an academic" He is paying for this including Flavio the revolutionary leader. <roflmao>

As JIM says... circumstances have changed slightly and they may look more favorable, besides the ban is bogus anyway.

I think he is 38 years old mate.

With hardly ANY F1 experience.

As you have pointed out i would rather have had a young driver getting a chance

Trouble is that Ferrari's young driver programme is only in its embryonic stages. The most experienced person on their books is Mirko Bortolotti, who hasn't exactly set the F2 world alight so far. Better to give a chance to their most loyal test driver, who knows how to drive an F1 car, than a complete rookie who won't be able to test at all before Valencia.

Last time he drove a race was in 1999 in a Minardi. This is a worse case than Schumaker. Anyway, will be interesting to see how he's going to perform.

He has, of course, been testing regularly since then. Not the same as racing but he won't be a complete no-hoper, I'm sure.

I'm not entirely convinced. He was always a bit no-hope like when he was full time. Wouldn't Ferrari have been better off trying to borrow one of STR's reserve drivers? After all, who supplies their engines.....?

Yeah! And Alguersuari would have been the best choice. Didn't the guy just pop in in the car and beat his team mate? <cool>
