Hey, it's called "blind faith" for a reason, you know. ;)

Hey, it's called "blind faith" for a reason, you know. ;)

Blind faith is reserved for people like button fans who pre 2009 season have nothing much to show for their faith in him...

However, fans of drivers like Senna or Schumacher or Hamilton have plenty of evidence each race that they do not need their faith to be blind.

Yeah, Alonso fans should know all about that.

This has been an interesting read, and I'd like to express my point of view, although I'm certain that few of you have any interest in it.

I was hoping to find a way to offend everyone in an effort to match the "spirit" of the game. The only common denominator between all of the points of view expressed is that they are predictable. That is okay, it indicates a bit of continuity in your views no matter how flawed that view may be. For that, I commend you all.

Hamilton is the most talented F1 driver to emerge since Schu. Schu was the most talented to emerge since Senna. I think we all agree on that point.

I was a Benneton wearing Schu fan in 1994 and was still with him in 1997 up until the end. I have a prob with that type of driving. But, I rate him number 1 from 1994 until today on driving talent. I suspect that Hamilton has matching talent, but the evidence is incomplete.

I find the use of words like "cheat" and "liars" to be simple and useful only for emotive purposes. However I do believe that Schu did purposely ignore the rules of good behavior and sportsmanship (cheat), and I do believe that Lewis is willing to lie (he lied) if told to by his lifelong benefactors.

The punishments metted out by the governing body have never made sense and never will. But, they have been consistant in their inconsistancy. Chaos theory at work.

I am a fan of no team or driver, so I can sit back and watch the unfolding dramas without angst because I do not have a dog in the hunt.

However, the more controversy we have, and the more cheating, lying, and inconsistant rulings by the FIA suits me because the real drama is here on the forums and not on the track.

Thanks for the fish.

Nah, some people just get upset when Lewis get slagged off no matter what he does (Like legitimately win a WDC yet still gets his talent questioned on here).

It's not just Lewis who gets that sort of treatment <grrr>

There is NEVER a time for jokes like that, regardless of the spirit.

True, though it doesn't mean the fans have to like it.

Only a Ferrari fan could have made that joke. ;)

Just because McLaren did a better job of building Ferrari's designs than Ferrari could...........................

This should be interesting!

At last the unbiased voice of reason.

I agree with all that you say here except that:

a) I do have a dog in the race (Williams) but these days it's not likely to win Crufts so I can be reasonably objective.

b) It hasn't been an interesting read, just the same old churn. I don't think any single person has ever changed their viewpoint throughout the years that these discussions have been going on, nor even accepted that other's viewpoints may have some validity even if they might differ from their own.

FWIW I think you rather pussyfooted around the Hamilton issue. He has shown that he is prepared to bend the rules of conduct, sportsmanship as well as the rules of the sport in order to win in much the same way as Schumacher would have. I suspect there's little to choose between them, in terms of both ability and ruthlessness, bar 12 or so years of opportunity.

Like it or not they'll both be remembered amongst the all-time great drivers in years to come.
