Michael Schumacher's return to Formula 1 in Valencia later this month remains subject to a medical clearance after his spokeswoman Sabine Kehm revealed that concerns linger over the strength of his neck. If he's not cleared to race, that will make the latest ticket buyers real angry. Let' wait and see http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/77566 |

IMO, Its all part of the build up. If his neck were that troublesome, he would have never managed a day in an F1 car followed by Karting. No doctor/personal physician would have allowed him to even attempt it without proper tests. If not part of the build up, it could be the 'get out of jail card' to use should he find his lap times are nowhere near what he could once constantly achieve. |

Maybe Bernie paid Ferrari to act like Shumi was coming back to boost crap sales for the EGP since Alonso won't be there. |

Not sure if it's 'build up' as SteelS thinks but it's not something that's really going to prevent him from racing. I think they're just letting the media run with a story for the publicity/ |

It's a very real concern. Any F1 drivers neck is subjected to very high lateral g forces and that is why a great part of their fitness training is dedicated to strengthening their neck muscles. It is a concern, that his neck, in his own words "pinches a bit" after his test session in the 2007 Ferrari I understand that he covered 70 laps at Mugello, which is not a GP distance. At Valencia, with Friday practice, qualifying and the race itself, he will drive at racing speeds, around 700km. And it is serious enough, for him and Ferrari to call the deal off. |

On thing is for sure, Schumacher will not jeopardise his health so while his commitment to Ferrari is as strong as ever, his participation is subject to a clean bill of health. At least it would mean my Avatar was safe...

So, if Schmacher is not allow to race and Renault are still Banned, could/would Alonso race in the second Ferrari?

No, he's already said he won't, even before the MS 'fantasy' stories turned out closer to the truth than expected. |

Surely contractually he could not... and besides it would not go down with the Renault team even if he was leaving in 2010. I doubt Alonso gave it any real consideration. |

But he doesn’t mind jeopardising the health of other drivers …

http://www.f1way.com/news/2009/August/6/sc...turn-by-karting It seems that Schumacher is ,in lieu of testing the F60, conducting his training on the Kart track... surely if he can do this his neck should be strong enough to race...
So does this mean that Badoer is the official reserve driver for the reserve driver of Massa. |

Actually talking of G force, I doubt that a kart won't generate the G forces that an F1 car do...unless Schumacher is putting some extra weight in his helmet. Would that gives the same effect?

Erm, it would be sort of like it. However, I suspect there's training equipment out there which can be used to simulate that sort of thing. Wouldn't like to be in it if it went wrong though.... lol |
