Too early to call, but if Alonso doesn't go next year then Alonso-Kubica will be a good pairing as they are good mates.

There goes another friendship

Different team, co-driver and team principal, it just won't happened.

Maybe...

but Kubica to McLaren could be more explosive as both Kubica and Hamilton have been rivals in junior formula and their competitive sides would create a Prost/Senna partnership.

Great for us I guess... <think>

I am sure Alonso would have given him some good advice to stay away from McLaren.

Maybe we are being too hard on McLaren after all post Dennis it might be a different environment for a Hamilton team mate.... or maybe Alonso will just tell Kubica were all the bodies are buried.

Don't forget that both seats at Ferrari are occupied in 2010 (provided Felipe's fit to race, which I sincerely hope he is). Kimi has said time and time again that he's got a contract until the end of 2010 and any 'performance clauses' will be null and void thanks to his two podiums this year.

That leaves one seat vacant at Renault, the other filled with Alonso. Heidfeld will probably retire. His performance has tailed off over the last few seasons and he's not as young as the other drivers.

Kubica's got to go somewhere. Renault have a seat for him (unless Grosjean is fantastic) and he's better off there than in a new team, isn't he? He can spend a year learning setup skills from Alonso and then take over as Renault Top Dog in 2011, when Alonso does finally go to Ferrari.

This is F1 and that will mean nothing if the powers that be want it...

I mean it is not much of a performance clause if a one 2nd and one 3rd out of 10 races and a points total of 18 counts as delivering

I would imagine that any performance clause in Raikkonen's contract would require him to score a certain percentage of the points of his teammate. Though the rumour, nonetheless, is that Raikkonen has fulfilled his performance clauses so if Ferrari want Alonso in 2010 they will have to buy out Kimi's contract.

Not between team mates. As I recall, the FIA thoroughly investigated Alonso's claims (which were later retracted) of bias within the team and found no evidence. In this instance, there was as much truth in Alonso's claims in 2007 as there was in Prosts claims in 88/89.

Quite an impressive list of excuses there from Nelson :P

In seriousness, it does seem as though Briatore is the kind of boss who treats his #2 drivers badly, unless they happen to be Giancarlo Fisichella. Remember Trulli? He was Alonso's best matched team-mate, yet got sacked apparently for an isolated incident at the French GP where a small error let someone by on the last lap.

So if Piquet gets another chance, we may well see a better driver than we have seen during his time at Renault. It just depends on whether he will be given that chance.

Yeah, but, then again, who manages Alonso's career? A certain fat hairy italian, thats who. No conflict of interest there then. <think>

The same guy who manages Piquet, of course. ;)

While all the analysis of Alonso and his teammates is going on, it's worth pointing out that he is still good friends with Trulli and Fisichella. So whatever went on at Renault clearly isn't held against Fernando himself.

Yeah, but Alonso doesn't fall out with people who can't beat him.
