I think that's a harsh assessment to be honest. Schumacher was a cheat, that's indisputable, but it's also fair to say that when he did cheat he was more or less always punished (1994 is the most obvious exception, but whether that was deliberate or accidental will never be settled). I too am disappointed to see MS return, but for me it's because I believe his achievements this time around will be a massive disappointment compared to what we are used to seeing. This is a guy who, at his prime, drove marginally competitive Ferraris to within an ace of the championship (e.g. 1997 and 1998). Yet by 2006, his last year in F1, he was being beaten by a driver in an inferior car. As far as I'm concerned that would never have happened when Schumi was in his prime. Nowadays Schumacher is the wrong side of 40, likely without his renowned levels of fitness, and recovering from a fairly serious injury himself. I simply don't see how he will fulfil the expectation that will be laid upon him. As ever, of course, I am happy to be proven wrong. But I think Schumi will struggle this time, if he beats Raikkonen it will be an achievement for him. |

I never wanted to comment on Shumaker returned because I really feel sick about it. I never rated the guy knowing his attitude on track, Ross Brawn quality and dodgy contract, but it's only my opinion off course. Not giving a drive to Badoer, Gene and burrying Massa before dying is simply sickening and a lack of respect for these guys. This is all a PR stunt generated by Bernie and Co to Ensure with the absence of Renault that Valencia (the most boring track) can still make hips of $$ full stop. I really hope Massa get well quick and race in Valencia an those behind this stop taking the fans for a ride. I know, Iam waiting for some hammering now. |

I don't think the Shumi drive is just a publicity stunt, although jusging by the increase in trffic on this site alone I can see how one might come to that conclusion. But it is not easy to come up with a name that would be better qualified. Anyway there are very few that don't rate Shumi as one of the top drivers of all time, he's even a fairly well known name over here. I think he's still got something left in the tank as far as speed goes. Some may recall that Kubica hosted some carting fetival, recently, and the fastest of all? Shumi. I think he'll do ok, but I agree he won't be his old self. |

not at all, it's good that others have the guts to speak out their opinions on Schumi because the lovefest on here was making me sick as well like I said on another thread just now, i feel f1 has taken a major step backwards and it saddens me |

Isn't it funny how all the criticism of anyone/else to do with F1 is suddenly forgotten when there's an easier target to bash? What has happened to the debates about Renault being banned? What about the not-quite-finished 2010 season business? What about Max's hints that he might possibly still stand for FIA pres again? What about Massa's injury, recovery, and chances of driving again? Nope, let's return to the old favourite of slagging off a driver who had probably three controversial incidents among almost 250 races, seven championships and holds more records than mmost drivers have had wins. Speaking of records, I can here some more broken ones rattling around as I type.... |

Erm, so what about the lovefest Schumi is receiving from many on here, including you? It's ok to declare your love for him but not to bring up his immense failings as a person and awful tactics? Gimme a break mate. that's bollocks and you know it is |

No one is bashing anyone, everyone is having their own opinion and all the subjects you have listed has also being discussed in other threads. BTW you should know there is far more than 3 incidents, I am too lazy to do some research and type them, but someone has done that in 606 (Schumaker tainted legacy part 1, 2 and 3) I wouldn't agree on a couple of them though. I never deny the high quality of Schumaker as a driver, but his attitude on track. Cheers mate. |

Or the hatefest? Btw, even though you've decided to sum my post up as 'bollocks', I'm not going to get my missus to complain about it to the mods. |

Well its good to have so many different view but lets not get too personal. We all have people in sport that we do not like for a reason. Thing is we all know the fans of M Schumacher will be cheering and also the haters of M Schumacher will be cheering while watching the Spanish Gp but it will be for different reasons Lets agree to disagree but you all must admit that M Schumacher inspires passionate posts from alot of us which is a good thing and also when it comes to life you need a hero and a villian in all good stories

I think the issue is here that the same person is both hero and villain so ne'rethe twain shall meet |

I've said that many of times. Shumi is a great anti-hero. Good villians have to be great at what they do, other wise what's the point? |

he is great at both, just as people from different sides of the fence. Granted I'm not saying he should take to wearing tights and a cape or growing a hendle bar stache, |
