The Finnish media are reporting that Kimi Räikkönen will be retiring from Formula One at the end this season in order to make way for Fernando Alonso at the Italian team. Paddock rumours have linked the 2007 World Champion with Brawn, although new suggestions point towards a career in rallying.

The reports also explained that Kimi's final year of contract - including payments of an estimated €28m - at Ferrari would be paid for but blocking the driver from joining any other Formula One team in the process. Riku Kuvaja, an 'assistant' of Räikkönen, has allegedly denied Tuesday's hearsay.

Smoke, fire?

I'd hate to see Kimi go though, but Alonso would be an upgrade. Now if we can just get Vettel while somehow keeping Massa.

I also read Kimis management were in discussion with Brawn last weekend ...to drive for Brawn on the cheap, as Ferrari will be paying his wages next year ...

Kimi has already said that Ferrari will be his last team, and his current flirtation with rallying suggests that his sights after Ferrari will be set beyond F1. I'd be very surprised if he moved to Brawn, especially as I don't think he would fit in there - his work rate is perhaps not what Ross would be used to or expect.

Jeez i hope not but maybe its time to move on, he was expected to be the next Schumacher in terms of reeling off titles at Ferrari, unfortunately this hasnt been the case. He wouldnt fit in at Brawn either so if he cant stay at Ferrari he would probably leave f1.

I think 2007 finished him. He got a title, and that was good enough. Didn't he say at the time that only a few more years would be more than enough?

His one goal is to stop Sutil at all costs <sarcasm>

Joking apart Kimi should not be in a Ferrari this year at all.

It has been spoken about Alonso moving to Ferrari and its about time Ferrari just signed him.

Kimi as pointed out won the 2007 Championship and has now just decided that its time for ice creams

Can't see him going to Brawn. Next year Brawn will be without the Honda money, on the same budget as other independants. So hard to see what Brawn can do next year, even with the genius of err... Ross Brawn.

Well, Brawn will presumably have the championship prize money from this year, and a nice hefty title sponsorship. That will almost certainly keep them above the other independents (besides maybe Williams). I agree though, they're likely to slip down the grid next year.

To be fair, kimi has had a fair crack of the whip in F1 and I do think he is satisfied with his title. I'm not going to rattle on about his motivation, but he has looked like he's been on wind down since 2007.

would love to agree with you there....

...not so certain though, perhaps the WDC but constructors might be a different story..

hmm, a title he picked up rather than won to be honest.

I can't figure him out, last year he should have blitzed Massa to really prove the point, but it worked the other way - is it Kimi? Or is it the team and Felipe is the 'annointed one' after being blessed with the patronage and condescension of the Schumacher?

Which ever way, I don't think folks will be surprised if his name isn't in the line up for next year in any team

Not really considering Kimi had two more wins, and several more DNF's.
